Tbf it still seems like he came up with it. But yeah if CA not just knew, endorsed and told Warner to go ahead with that whole thing, then that gives the subsequent punishments a rather different complexion...
There's no way Warner wouldn't have come out with this at the time of the bans if there's any truth to it. Pathetic attempt at passing blame

Though not about the fact lesser nations routinely appoint cheats to the captaincy after they've been convicted of ball tampering. .

In fairness, given the public mood at the time, there's 0 chance he would have been listened to.

I always suspected sandpapergate really did go to the top. Why else did Sutherland pull a Nixon and resign

Guilty people resign. Burgey as a lawyer can probably back me up here

Yeah imo, Warner came up with it, was egged on by executives at CA and Lehmann, and then he told Bancroft to do it. But Smith and the bowlers didn't know about it. It all makes so much sense.

We have a pretty clear idea of the actual events between Warner and Smith courtesy of Lemon's book, no?

Bringing Chase on after 8 overs when the seamers were having the momentum is an ATG captaincy clanger.

Chase looks more listless than the plethora of part-time offices the Windies have loved to use in Oz over the past 25 years.

Might as well have grabbed Hooper after he was handing out the caps to bowl some spin; he couldn't be any worse.

It can work if you have a good spinner. Which Chase isn't.
Well yeah that’s my point. Like bringing a Lyon-standard spinner on? Fine. Chase really should only be bowling when the other options had been exhausted, and clearly right now it has not.

I probably shouldn’t be too harsh on someone who’s only just arrived in the country…but these no-balls are ridiculous.

i was going to say this Mindley fellow looks really, really ordinary. Looks like he's also done a Thakur and got injured after **** all overs.

Holder so far is bowling the same economical but unthreatening line that made people think he bowled better than he did at Perth.
