Yes but Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Walsh, Kapil didn't miss too matches as captain though. So it can work too.
I think Aus should debut lance Morris v the saffers
Fair point re Smith, obviously can't be compared with Sach as different eras with no overlap. Smith is best of this era and a super star batter.
The only shortfall of this Aus team is away series like most teams, they will struggle to win in India or England or even saf with their lineup. Right now there's no dominant team or teams. In the past Aus and saf were dominant. That's now given way to extreme home team dominance.

Hmm, I think we want the proven best for them. It would be nice if Richardson was fit. No more Shield cricket for ages though.
I'm not sold on Morris juuust yet from watching him. His control has improved dramatically on last season but he bowls very high ration of short stuff which is not, in my opinion, the best strategy for test success (unless you're Neil Wagner).
He looked like he was bowling absolute express at times in the Qld game though. I haven't seen someone make the ball fly off the wicket the way he did since Pattinson was at his best years ago. But a bit more experience would be nice. It's annoying CA never schedules any Aus A tours as Morris and all our test prospects could really benefit from them.
All this being said, he'll probably break down with stress fractures in a year...
