Really good from the openers. Toughest gig in cricket, that. Did a good job.

actualy think Starc was probably the pick of our bowlers tbf to him.

Great job by the opening pair.

Btw did the Aussies really bowl any better than our seamers? Maybe slightly but there wasn't much in it.

The main difference is that Lyon can hold an end whereas Chase is abysmal and released any pressure we had built.

They were probably a bit fuller and there was likely more in it yesterday. Thought Starc was good tbh, and yeah lyon in that holding role is really important to the Aus set up

You wonder where the game will go once the breakthrough comes, but I think after 4/600 sides usually fall to pieces. Genuinely great effort from them. I don't think we bowled too badly at all.

Yes they did. Better line and lengths, made the batsmen play more. Sure Aus didn't score that fast for periods, but that's mainly because the ball was out in no-man's land.

Do you mean in general, or just with the first new ball?

West Indies quicks bowled well for the first two sessions yesterday but they were awful today IMO.

Great stuff from the Windies openers. Love to see a bit of fight from them.
They've completely turned a new leaf in test cricket over the last year or so and the fight is the most important thing of all because it's been something
that's been lacking in their system/management for years.

Windies are showing flashes in both bowling and batting

Just needs consistency

I mean with the new ball. The first 25 overs basically. I think the Aussies bowled a tiny bit straighter, but there wasn't much difference really. I suspect Nathan Lyon being able to give them a break and not release the pressure willl be a big difference maker.

Chase completely released the pressure and then it got to the point where we gave up. A decent spinner holding an end and going at 3 rpo or less would have made a big difference IMHO.

Our bowling has been pretty good for a while now, though the kookaburra ball remains a problem. The middle order batting really sucks still, but in Holder/Da Silva and Joseph we have a lower order that really contributes.

We desperately need a couple of proper middle order batsmen and for the selectors to stop making stupid decisions over specialist spinners.

What makes the Chase thing worse is that Holder and Mayers exist which should really give the team the balance it needs to select its best spinner in every game. I don't even think the selectors would say they really think Chase is that.

Haven’t seen today’s play, but it’s good to see Smith back in the runs. He’s looked merely mortal since the last Ashes. Hoping he gets back to his best, with a couple of centuries in a losing cause next summer. :santa:

So, the massacre series is underway. So far, going on as per script(except for the 74 run stand). Couple of comments -
1. As much as I admire the stodginess of K Brathwaite, I don't understand some of his actions as captain. If you had to bowl a spinner so desperately and clearly you can see that your main spinner is delivering lollipops, would it have been such a bad idea to bowl Bonner? I keep reading Bonner used to be a useful leg-spinner but have never seen him bowl.
2. Whatever happens, I want to see young Chowdapull (hopely, ancient gamers will get the reference) get to a 50 first and then keep going on. Hopefully, he will be the one bright spot to emerge for WI cricket from this tour.
