All time ODI XI

Depends on your need of the concept of 7 in an atg xi

i said in a post lost to the pages earlier that a Shakib like batsman can bat at 5 on paper but be pushed down the order when it is time for late over hitting which Dhoni and ABD can both do so well. this guy will also be useful at 5 if there is an early collapse which an atg xi will never face probably but if there is they can be valuable. if not and they are demoted they will still contribute to the team as a bowler

if the batting order is completely fixed then Klusener for 7 all day but we’re getting to arbitrary rules in an arbitrary exercise at this point
Say there is batting collapse and team is 120/4 in 25 overs . Who do you want to face maximum of those 150 balls remaining?
Devilliers, Dhoni or Shakib ?

Klusener at 7. Shakib better higher up.
Klusenar is 100 times better than Shakib at number 7. With Viv Sachin and potentially one more bowling batsman in the top 6, you don't need Klusenar to bowl more than 4-5 overs. Klusenar should be one of the first names in odi atg XI.

Kapil's sr of 94 is really undersold in this thread; only three players have a better sr than him in odi history till his retirement and all of them aren't close to his batting avg

Limit that to only middle order batsmen like 5-7 and his record improves further. Saleem Malik is the only one who can offer something similar and he averages 2 more for a sr of 6 less

There is an argument to be made for him being unreliable at times in the mould of Afridi but he's got this record over 200 matches. That sr alone is ATG material and he's also a superb fielder and excellent fifth bowler and a widely praised captain

I'd take Shakib just because he is in the team but either one of the three can also do the job

Why do you a think a no .7 can stop batting collapse which Tendulkar, Kohli, Richards, Dhoni/Bevan can’t?

I need Kapil or Pollock to score 45 in last 5 overs . I don’t need them to stop batting collapse.
Klusener. Are we really forgetting his 99 Sf heroics against McGrath, Warne, Fleming?

But many people don’t rate him as a bowler and as a result we are having Kapil vs Imran.
Otherwise Klusener is the best no.7
Gilchrist *
Sachin
Viv (c)
Abbas/Kohli
De Villiers
Flintoff
Klusener
Pollock
Akram
Warne
Hadlee

Flintoff is a great ODI bowler plus the good tail makes up for lack of an specialist batsman.

FTR, for a minimum of 6 years and 80 innings, these are the best SR periods for Kapil and Imran.

A good tail never makes up for a batsman and more bowling options don't make up for McGrath and Garner.
Hadlee, Akram, Warne, Pollock are as good as Mcgrath and Garner

And a tail is better when it can perform in WC knockouts unlike the specialist bat who chokes at every opportunity.

His high SR is balanced by a low run yield. Imran is 10 runs ahead of him, Klusener nearly 20 runs ahead.
