All time ODI XI

The thing is that posters here are not realistically representing how unreliable a Kapil bat would be in. You need someone capable of finishing chases and not just quick hitting.
you’re not understanding that a side that has some of the greatest chasers in odi history does not need another guy who is inferior to them at the same role. Kapil offers a point of difference with the bat while also being almost the same quality with the ball

Just put Miller at #7 and call it a day, that's what we really want anyway but unfortunately there's no ODI player actually close.

I just don't find it a good idea to have Imran as a #7 in an ODI side when he has neither a particularly good average or SR for that position either in actual figures or in capability. Kapil doesn't remotely have have the average either but at least he has the SR, it's not really about him being a better bat than Imran or not - Imran just has zero credentials for being #7 in an ATG side.

No. Shakib is a proper bowler. His bowling stats are better than the other two considering this is a faster scoring era.

Shakib: 221 matches, 285 wickets @ 29.47 (e/r 4.44)

Kapil: 225 matches, 253 wickets @ 27.45 (e/r 3.71)

Imran: 175 matches, 182 wickets @26.61 (e/r 3.89)
i think it’s pointless making these cross era odi xi’s without any form of stat correction or standard as odis in each era have been quite different

Let's get into the nitty-gritty of what makes a good #7.

How many balls on average does a #7 face? What's the mean strike rate? At what point in the innings is a #7 generally expected to come in? When will the 5th bowler bowl his overs? How many overs are we expecting him to get through?

No. Shakib is a proper bowler. His bowling stats are as at least as good as the other two (probably better).

Shakib: 221 matches, 285 wickets @ 29.47 (e/r 4.44)

Kapil: 225 matches, 253 wickets @ 27.45 (e/r 3.71)

Imran: 175 matches, 182 wickets @26.61 (e/r 3.89)
I'm the biggest Shakib fanboy on CW, but he's benefitted a lot from minnow bashing in ODIs. He averages 37 against top 8 teams.

He's probably more likely to stay in and build a partnership if one of those was still at the crease.
Ans what if you need 45 in 4 overs while chasing ? Who will guide that chase ?

What is more helpful in that scenario, 18 of 10 with pollock and Akram to come or staying till the end and scoring 13 of 12?

105 of Shakib’s wickets are vs Zim and Afghanistan, at an average of sub 20. Take them out he won’t be half the bowler Imran And Kapil are.

to add to this Bangladesh are possibly the one team that consistently plays odis on pitches that aren’t just roads so Shakib’s contemporary record takes a futher hit

but then he also hasn’t had the bowling support or the score pressure that a player from a stronger side would have enjoyed so it evens out in the end

Better at 7 , Klusener or Shakib?
Depends on your need of the concept of 7 in an atg xi

i said in a post lost to the pages earlier that a Shakib like batsman can bat at 5 on paper but be pushed down the order when it is time for late over hitting which Dhoni and ABD can both do so well. this guy will also be useful at 5 if there is an early collapse which an atg xi will never face probably but if there is they can be valuable. if not and they are demoted they will still contribute to the team as a bowler

if the batting order is completely fixed then Klusener for 7 all day but we’re getting to arbitrary rules in an arbitrary exercise at this point

5th bowler

No. 7 is expected to come from 30 over onwards and bowl 8-10 overs.
