Yeah, I don't like Sodhi at 8. You want the guys above to have the ability to bat freely, not that Santner comes in at let's say over 13 or so and thinks he has to bat somewhat responsibly until the 18th, given Sodhi/Southee/Ferguson/Boult aren't reliable.
Santner is up for it. And more up for it than Bracewell would be as Santner has more international exposure. Santner is a decent number 7.

Last night if they took that Phillips catch and we were 29 for 4 it was good night nurse even if we had Bracewell coming in at 7. MB was never going to make any runs on a difficult night where the other "better" batsman found conditions too difficult to score.

Kane just needs to do better. Last night if we lost would all have been on him in my view. He is solely selected to steady the ship in case of early wickets and he himself got out cheaply instead. His job is to score 25 off about 28 balls every time he bats and he should be able to do that.
If Kane can't score runs when the chips are down and wickets are falling around him then why is he in the team.

England were gonna struggle to make the semi's even before this, they have to beat NZ on the second and hope that Aus don't get there NRR higher vs IRE and AFG, or hope that Aus lose one of the two aformentioned games and that they beat NZ.
Are NZ through or what is NZ's equation?

I want to have my say about a minor issue. Some of the minnow batsman can't control the bat in their hands. The bat appears too heavy or they don't seem to be able to check their wrists. It seems like the bat has a mind of its own when they are playing. The bat should be an extension of your arms and follow your hands through a lifetime of playing cricket. If I were coach of Netherlands etc would be having all of them play with lighter bats so they can control their instrument better.

So, Australia needs NZ to smash everyone else to have a chance at getting through, it seems. Imagine the scenes if NZ beat England then lose to Ireland on purpose to keep us out. I kind of hope it happens, actually. That would be funny as ****.
No it was a national disgrace when Fleming did the same thing 20 years ago. Never again.

It was Steve Waugh who did it to us, wasn't it? Going slowly in a chase against Scotland in '99.

However I do think if we beat England we should rest several of our fast bowlers for the Ireland match.
Boult and Ferguson out
Milne and chapman in with the extra overs to come from Neesham and Mitchell.

Hi Ed

Been 5 years since we have spoken so hello!!
We did it in a tri series with Australia and South Africa.
We eliminated Australia by Adam Parore leaving balls outside off stump between the 40th and 45th over to get our run rate down and give South Africa a bonus point win.

20 overs of underarm deliveries, just to really rub it in.

You do realise every 'minnow' batsman in this WC would utterly dominante whatever form of cricket you play, right?

Oh no doubt, we were buried at 29-4. That's not the scenario I'm talking about, I mean 120-5 off 15 or some such, where Bracewell has the ability to score 20 odd off 10 or so whereas none of Sodhi down do. You don't want Santner/Neesham and co having to hold back a bit with overs to go because they don't trust (fairly) the guys below them. I reckon in an ideal world you have a decent T20 No.8. And honestly? I reckon Bracewell is the better bet to bowl 4 overs cheaper than Ish. Ish's control over length still isn't there.

If Kane's job is truly 25 off 28, then the tactics are wrong, incidentally. No side needs that. I think we all appreciate he's in the side because he's Kane, and partly because Josh Hazelwood dropped him in the last World T20 final then he went nuts.
