Uhm Zim knew there could be rain around or didn't they look up or see that the previous game had a the odd very short break.

Going by that logic you might as well not even play the game in the first place and just award the win to South Africa.

What was the DLS par score for South Africa to chase if they reduced the 9 over game to a 5 over game?
If it was under 51, then I agree that they should have just been awarded the win. That's common sense. Bit ridiculous if that didn't happen tbh.
If it was more than 51, and SA were just ahead of the 3-over par score but had not crossed the 5 over target yet, then yea abandoned is the right move. You have to account for the (incredibly unlikely) possibility that SA score 0 runs in the next 2 overs and finish below the target.

That is the argument from duckworth-lewis that it should be changed if you are ahead of the 5 over par score and not punished for the overs not completed.

So I just put this game through the official DLS software and can confirm SA were screwed.
Had they started the run chase with just 5 overs to bat, their target score to win was 48
Had they taken the field after the rain interruption with 2 more overs to play, their target score would have been revised to 45
In either case, they had scored more than the target score. So to deny them 2 points on a technicality is pretty dumb.
Though you could argue it was unfair on the bowling team that conditions were so bad to play in that they couldn't even bowl 5 overs, and therefore the match shouldn't count.

I don't get why they cant have a make up day. You don't need to bother about crowds or any of that ****. The event was lost for the crowds and tv views, but you could still let the teams have their right to earn 2 points at any ground anywhere and not be disadvantaged by who randomly cops a rain out.

It makes a lot more sense when you consider the sort of ODIs they win and how they do it. They thrive in old school type games on slow deck where 265 is par. They bowl okay in T20 sometimes but they just don't have the power batting.

I can understand why it makes sense from a cost perspective to have games back to back at the same ground. Personally don't have an issue with it.

It's raining on God's Peninsula atm, about 5kms from the hallowed turf.
As I exclusively predicted a couple of weeks ago, this tourney is going to smashed by the prevailing weather patterns on the eastern seaboard, and the games which do go ahead will have lower scores than would otherwise be the case if there wasn't a La Nina event going on.
Which is why Ireland only made 150 against England, as opposed to the 260 they would have made in a drier summer against such dross opposition.
