There is a very sound, rational technical basis for that advice to be fair, though yes it's mostly used by pundits and Chappelli types because it's rote.
Yeah there's no point constraining a guy like Pant. One feels he'd be another 30@50 plodder if he'd played for the Old England instead of a mad **** who does mad **** successfully.

Yeah I know he's said he's fine, he's not interested etc etc but you have to think that Jos Buttler is looking at all this going on with a tinge of longing/regret for what might have been.

Bazball myth already being eroded. Was a great talking point for some publicity though.
Stokes and Bairstow have always been attacking, Root is playing without the burden of captaincy. They are the run scorers.
Every coach has a honey-moon period; relationship baggage with the team has not accumulated yet, everyone alert and attentive and keen to impress the new gaffer, feels like a totally fresh start. Let's see where they are tracking in 18 months.
They've got the problem of Broad and Anderson departing at some stage reasonably soon. Crawley is not up to it. Lees is hit and miss. Pope is hit and miss. Potts is a good find.

There’s some truth to the point about the batsmen but it’s foolish to pretend our approach hasn’t changed. Attacking batsmen or not we aren’t trying to chase that second Test target under Silverwood

Is there no prospect they bring him back now? I'm waiting for it.

Anyone watching Spark or Sky with a VPN? I have no trouble with Spark but last time I signed up for Sky I could only get a blank screen, which makes me think they have a VPN blocker.
Yes - I'm in NZ with a VPN that points to NZ but I still couldn't watch SkyGo unless I turned it off

Even Geekzone NZ people have been making some posts about this in recent months.

Setting up tunnels back though their home (or dad's) broadband. Using MikroTik routers, configuring an incoming ipsec tunnel.

you say this like this is an esoteric or unpopular take here and not what everyone on this forum with plural brain cells has said lol

At least wait until the game is done - you'll look a bit foolish if they chase 400. Also weird that after 3 Test wins on the bounce, you want to say it's eroded after 4 more days.

Bairstow might've been attacking but he wasn't 136 off 92, 162 off 157, 71* off 44, then 106 off 144 (having been 10 off 50 or whatever) attacking.

Pretty sure every person has said we'll see if this is a once-off, too.

Just thinking about a combined XI for the series, it's hard to nail down because some of the top performers for the series hold the same spots in their respective XI's. Maybe something like:

Lees, Bairstow, Pope, Root, Mitchell, Stokes, Blundell, Potts, Boult, Anderson, Leach

That tail is nightmare fuel, but with the amount of runs in 2-7 I don't suppose it matters. Tough on Jonny as well probably, but you can't leave either player out, nor can you justify batting one of them at 3 given how poor the openers were, and Mitchell had a nigh perfect series with the bat.
