Joe Root is number one

Norwood's on Fire
His average for the current series is now a pathetic 101.66

In fairness Mitchell's is higher

Yeah it’s weird how a batsman of his quality wets his pants each time he is in Aus…

There are plenty of highly rated Test batsmen from outside Australia who have averaged less than 35.6 on Australian soil.
true as this may be, it's to my mind also true that for any batsman, and especially an english batsman, output in the cauldron that is australia is necessary if they want to be considered in the upper echelon

conversely, this is why i also really don't rate warner - to be an aussie batsman and do such spectacular nothing in england is an equal blot on records imho

Worth bearing in mind that he has an average of 35 in Australia not 15. Its not great but certainly not terrible scores a fifty there one in every 3 innings. We been rubbish there but has been one of our better performers in aus
This is gonna sound very "Shane warne broke his fingernail in india"-eqsue, but root really hasn't been given the best circumstances for his Aussie tours either. In 2017 he was rushed into hospital mid one game with a bad stomach bug, and in 2021 he was at rock bottom mentally with the captaincy burden and kept getting hit in the crown jules.

Also in 2017 Australia were ball tampering and 2021 doesn’t count due to their insane and excessive covid restrictions. 2013-14 he was ****ed about by the selectors and wasn’t the player he’d become yet.

So in summary none of them count

I'm all for this logic mind.

Cannot believe he couldn't score century in ashes at his peak form. He has failed to score century in last 3 ashes series.

Can somewhat forgive him for 2013 (Johnson + opening) and 2021 (spicy decks). But 2017-18 had the roadiest roads on the planet. Mitch Marsh (lol) made 2 tons that series.

Still definitely a blot on his record, questions to answer etc
