So Baz has spent as lot of time watching Devon bat in the commentary box and picks the quicker bowler to bowl at his ribs with leg gully in position. He'll be handy to Nicholls (look away pulls) and compulsive puller Blundell as well.

Expect another Bazball article if these frutify.

Joverton's pace didn't seem to trouble the batsmen at all. The one to Conway that went over the stumps was the only one where it felt like it made a difference.

It's a concern if his accurate, moving deliveries are being patted down without much fuss. Common enough in England, but then this is where he'll play half of his games.

Would be interesting to get a front-on look to see if the batsman gets a good look at the ball out of the hand.

It's something fairly basic that good players of spin do but weirdly you see players go to the subcontinent and fail to do it.

Surely a no brainer for a batting coach to emphasise it.

No way... what's going on? Kane didn't look like getting out for days but then nicks off. Surely a Kane in good form leaves it comfortably.

We have to yet again depend on Devon, Darryl and Blundell.

Every time I don't rate Nicholls he scores. Hope he does today.

Interesting. Parore was definitely one of the better NZ players of spin from that era.

Exactly the opposite in NZ. Barely a player plays in front of the pads. Everyone plays next to the pads with rigid hands with absolutely no wrist work. Playing pace and playing spin is chalk and cheese. There are couple of players of late like Conway and Ravindra play spin like sub continent batters. Truly forward or well back, defending in front of pads, lots of use of wrist. Latham and Kane too, very good technicians vs spin.

Very hard to ingrain this in a batter particularly in NZ. We aren't good users of wrist and balance at the crease is hard to come by. Also most batters bash the ball particularly vs spin.

Don't feel like England have bowled all that well this morning. They've been okay, but not all that threatening. Been quite a lot of short and wide stuff, a bit both sides of the wicket, not much swing on offer - and yet we've lost three wickets already.
