Yup, good game. I don't intend on actually developing my side really but it's fun to check scorecards now and again.

Do you have any players on Net sessions?

What I like about BT is building 'project' players. Training a guy till their mid-20s and making them an outstanding player. In one of my older teams I actually trained a guy pretty close to Elite bowling, might attempt that with my current U19 player in this team too.

Kingston (two), Cuss, and Ilaraki are on net sessions, and I imagine they'll all be on there for quite a while.

The bot bashing's been fun if not competitive - that game was only the second game I've ever lost lol.

Looking back on the scorecard of our friendly game, I really appreciate Gholam Ahmed's innings:

He's a worthless/worthless bat hahaha

Managed to only accept one before they all disappeared.
Just noticed the challenge to Mad Hatterz disappeared after you accepted the March Hairz one. I can't seem to resend a challenge for 14th April either. Strange.

Will send one out to Mad Hatterz later on then :)

So I have been wondering what it takes to build a Division 1 quality team.

Looking at SL Div 1s it seems like you generally need around 1, if not 2, Nat-standard players (Elite+ and higher?) plus a supporting cast of guys with 10k to 100k wages (Quality - Masterful primary?), with a total wage bill in the range of a million pounds per week.

How do these clubs manage this? I presume they're running a loss each week, doubt sponsorship/gate takings can cover that wage, which means a side's run at the top flight might be short lived? Build up savings, train up a gun player or two, then hop on the TM to flesh out the squad and then run that combination till the cash runs out, sell off and then repeat? Or is there a more sustainable way to accomplish this.

I also wonder how a club kicks off a Div 1 run? Do you try to grind it in an affordable manner until Div 3, at which point you start burning cash for 2-3 seasons till you crack it? Or do you grind it till Div 2? Right now I run just 100k in wages and turn a comfortable profit in Div 3 OD and Div 4 FC, been fully home-grown till this point, but I sense a wall is coming up soon and if I want to promote I might need to splurge a bit. Worried about running losses but still not being good enough to survive in Div 2.

It also seems most Div 1 teams aren't in Div 1 across all formats, so I assume they focus on one league and manage player fitness in the other formats. Which makes sense, actually having 17/18 Div 1 quality players must be unaffordable. I wonder if any team has managed to survive in both FC and OD Div 1 for multiple seasons in a row. Would be quite an accomplishment.

FWIW - I am aware of maxing out ground/playing loads of friendlies/getting that 80k weekly interest. But maybe there are other sources of untapped income that I'm missing?

I think you’re better off with lower waged NAT players if you want to go down that route. Around the 180K region perhaps. Also having positive cash flow for a good while and a good youth setup keeps you up for longer before you need to sell.

The market has changed a lot since I last played and I think you need to spend 3 million plus for a good player. On the other hand it’s a good market to sell so there is a good way to build your finances for a long term push towards the top divisions.

I found FC top flight harder to break into generally compared to OD. So I think targeting a specific format might be more effective.

Fun friendly vs @ataraxia 's Atrocious Axolotls today. We batted first and scored 444/3, thanks to 179* off 137 from Onyango, 126 off 79 from Rasel and 82* off 57 from Donegan. In reply, Whelan hammered 149 off 88 for the hosts but lacked support, the next highest from his side being just 23. Bowled them out for 247 in 36 overs. All-worthless Gholam Ahmed accounted for about 40% of the runs conceded, giving away 101 in his 7 overs lol.

The first Intra-CW FC Friendly* has come to an end, with Robot Koalas beating @dontcloseyoureyes's Central Districts by an innings and 198 runs.

Bit of a mismatch going by the ratings, had we done our homework prior to the game we would have rested a few guns to make the match more competitive. Skipper Shahriar Rasel top scored with scored 98 for us as we put up 372 in 102 overs in the 2nd innings, while POTM Piyasena Mohammed returned match figures of 6/44 as we bowled them out for 52 and 122. Result accomplished within 2 days.

Thanks for the game DCYE! Looking forward now to a few OD Friendlies vs @Himannv's March Hairz and Mad Hatters, @Marcuss's Ashgrove Astronauts (who haven't gone bot yet), and then another FC Friendly vs @andruid's Chapati Madondo to wrap up the off season!
