Watched the highlights... pretty impressed with mayers' bowling tbh. Obviously embarrassing to collapse like that but it wasn't a memey spell. Smart, accurate Collymore-esque bowling with zero pace.
Yeah it’s more evidence that they can’t handle good bowling in difficult conditions, but I wouldn’t say it’s an embarrassing new low just because it was <80mph. Nobody would have found Mayers easy to play yesterday.

It's always depressing mate, but in the end most reasonable brits hate our press more than you do, in every poll, our Tabloid journos are considered just above Peadophiles in regard. That newspaper is one of the most egregious of them all. Should be said though that millions do buy and click on this trash, so as a country we are not without blame.

So I fully understand why we are hated by so many outside of the country in sports and Politics, because the two biggest selling dailes in the world the Heil and the Scum are our avatars to the worlds, and they are utter pondlife, serving people that yearn for a Britain that never really existed.
Yeah great post. Tbf I should have said that this is not my experience with most England fans nor players. Just the media.

Even Jonathan Agnew is really arrogant tbh, and never researches the opposition.

Michael Atherton is an outstanding cricket journalist, as is George Dobell. I like Dean Morgan too. I often wonder what they really think about the likes of Gibson, Newman and Agnew.

After whining about people yearning for the past, I'll do a bit of it myself. I think there used to be separation between Sports Journos in tabloids and the general bottom-feeders of the news. Even amongst the broadsheets nowadays we have trolls like, Syed and Brown, yet the tabloid ones are just full-on click-bait sensationalism.

I mean my dad, who was mildly left-wing, used to always buy the Mail for the sports and the puzzles, read from the back, and barely gave a cursory glance at the news bit. it used to be largely divorced from sensationalism, hence why sports people had reasonable relationships with the sports press.

I actually think even Dobell veers to stirring things up a bit too much. The epitome of this stuff is Vaughan though whose cancellation seems a rather tepid one, always looking for the sensationalist angle, a blight on all broadcasts and publications he works for.

Yeah I think Agnew is definitely a problem, because although he rarely says outright terrible stuff like some do, unlike the Tabloid crew, he's seen as one of our 'respectable' journalists. And he isn't very good. Like you say, overly Anglocentric, uninformed and arrogant.

His ugly spat with Jonathan Liew should have been the BBC’s cue to move on from him. Not that he should be ‘cancelled’ or anything, but what’s the point of him as a broadcaster if he’s not even polite or respectable? He’s not there for his insight.

Agnew isn't really a cricket journalist. The occasional fluff piece for the bbc website. He doesn't really follow cricket apart from when he is employed to do so as far as I can tell. Antiquated views. He's not bad as a radio broadcaster as anchor/presenter on TMS because he does the radio broadcaster stuff well and tends to defer to others for their opinions on the game.

Newman has a nice living writing rubbish and watching England all round the world.

Btw if England fans ever need to understand why we play so much better against you than against anyone else, just check out this article from Paul Newman in the Daily Mail, as an example.

It says Kyle Mayers is a 'journeyman' and a 'trundler' and Joshua Da Silva a 'limited batsman.' Yet no word on the talent or lack thereof of messer's Woakes, Overton and Lees.

This guy knows nothing about Josh, who is actually an attacking opener in white ball cricket with lots of shots, but one with the discipline to put them away if required. Mayers took wickets against South Africa and Sri Lanka and of course played one of the ATG knocks just last year.

Your journalists do this every tour. Tbf sometimes even your management does it. You'd think years of getting beaten in the Caribbean would teach them to shut up. But nope, it's every single time.
This kind of hubris is why the years of 2014 and 2015 were a golden age for those who love a bit of schadenfreude against English sports teams.

Well done Windiest.
