Whatever it takes!!!
In terms of raw talent and how much better they were than their peers, I dont think anyone can surpass Viv. That said, I did vote for Sachin because I think the longevity definitely matters and his bowling is bloody underrated.

Now I realize the poll was for batsman and not overall value as a player or whatever, but I do think I will pick Sachin first in an ODI draft for this reason, so there ya go. YMMV.

Viv, Abbas and Kapil had SR a league above the rest, because that was an evolving period for ODIs and players were yet to find proper scoring pace.
Sachin's stats suffer from teenage debut. And he was the only match winner in the team, that restricted his natural game.
Still his opening stats in 90s was extra ordinary 49 avg at 91 sr. I dont think Viv's SR would have been far better than Sachin or Jayasuriya's had he played in 90s.

Ab de Villiers or Sir Viv.ABD never won the cup so Sir Viv.If virat has a great WC in 2023 then he has a good shot.

There is some truth to this. Viv didn't face a single ATG ODI spinner in his career, the best being Qadir. So we could expect spin heavy teams could make some effect to his stats. How ever i'd expect him to have Shewag level SR to go with that average.

There are many players who debuted in their teens. Sachin is not special in that regard.

I judge people in the context of their time. Viv was well over a decade ahead of his. Tendulkar, Bevan, Ponting etc dominated their eras, but Viv dominated the 2010s in 1985.

SR of 90 in 1990s = 100 SR in 00s
Sehwag and Jayasuriya are in the same league in their peaks.

I dont know many teenage players, started that early and stayed relevant for a long period.

True. But none of Shewag, Jayasuriya or Gilchrist would have average as Viv. Bevan or Dhoni with Average. Jaya or Shewag with SR. That's why the fellow is special.

De Silva 18, Ranatunga 18, Afridi 16, Aaqib Javed 17, Javed Miandad 17 are some examples. I am sure there are many more examples.

Cricketer Of The Year
I can only assume those voting for Jadeja are continuing "the answer is Jadeja" joke which infests many threads.

To put the joke into perspective, only 12 players have a top rating of 900 or more on the ICC ODI all time batting rankings.

Jadeja? A distant 83rd on the current rankings with a rating not even half of the 900 mark.
