he seems to have some concept of self preservation because he has spent periods blocking it out.

i think he just rates himself to be too good for these guys if they bowl poorly, and fair enough.

Cummins probably rates the Pakistani tailenders (rightly or wrongly) as having good enough hand/eye to see off Starc and himself, and so has gone in with his spinners. I don’t think this is right tbh. A really good quick is like mixamatosis to tailenders.
