Yeah, that's the thing isn't it.....when it came down to it we loved him too. He was never a smartass arrogant prick to us, I think he genuinely loved the UK and spending time there. And you know.....when he barrelled us (pretty much every time) well that was OK, cos it's Warnie. No shame in that.

Dunno what I'm trying to say really, just that he transcended any Ashes rivalry between fans.

That moment on day 5 at the Oval in 05 when he was fielding on the fence and the crowd started chanting “If only you were English” to him and he took the hat off and did the bow was just poetic.. Was absolute quality

There you go......I'd forgotten about that. Classic example of how he had endeared himself to the English people.

Ill also cite his 700th at the G, I was sat a bay away from the Barmy Army but when Warne came on to bowl they were way more tuned in to what was taking place than most of the Aussies around me. When he bowled Strauss they were up on their feet in an instant.

Many of us have been temporarily suspended or received infraction points for pretty harmless stuff

Most are deserved in the name of community spirit

Posting inflammatory stuff when the global cricket community is in mourning is not acceptable

Yeah the guy was totally Englishman at heart.

Yep easily the most loved Australian cricketer in England. I think most people like Ponting these days and there is obviously huge respect for someone like McGrath but nothing comes close to Warne.

I’m strangely moved by Warne’s death. I mean, I’ve always loved the game, and he’s been there almost as long as I’ve understood the game. I was 14 when he debuted, and he’s just been a constant character since. Probably the greatest bowler ever in terms of mastering cricket’s hardest art and succeeding at it beyond belief. A guy who had a will to win games matched by only people like Michael Jordan. A creator of truths that seem like myths. The hat-trick that Boonie caught. His absolute will to win in the losing 2005 Ashes campaign. The 700th at the ‘G. A guy who never shied away from his flaws. A guy who could polarise the chattering people in the world, but was clearly loved by, and loved, those close to him. A dad. And dead far too young.

Vale Warnie. We can consider ourselves very fortunate to have seen you ply your skills with our own eyes.
