*Official* South Africa in New Zealand 2022

We have underused CDG and Darryl in general. Surely CDG could bowl more overs than he has. Nothing wrong in giving a spell to Darryl as well. The thing with Southee, Boult and Wagner is that even if things aren't happening they will keep trying. It's a good trait but not always useful. I wish Latham was a bit more assertive and went for shorter spells unless a bowler is creating lot of chances.

That is a cracking catch. The one yesterday was poor footwork but he got away with it, that was much wider and lower

Odd move to pull KJ off an over after he looked to be really troubling Jansen. Also, I know NZ is behind the game, but not having an orthodox slip in place seems a pretty criminal oversight from Latham.

Though re that catch and with one going high and to Blundell's right shortly afterwards to the boundary, I do think that the reach or span of Blundell's dive is less than many other keepers, certainly less than the very top ones. He certainly doesn't fly full-stretch horizontally like some. I think (unqualified opinion) it comes from his weight being slightly more on his heels than toes, and so the first step does not put him in a position to truly launch full length.

Fleming saying that this is the first time the composition of the side - i.e. NZ 'all seam attack' - has been exposed. Clearly he has forgotten about the defeat at Mt Maunganui.

It would be nice right now to have Ajaz, but he was injured. Whether we would've actually selected him for this test is another matter - probably not tbh seeing as we already omitted Boult after Henry's performance last match.

I don't think we would have gained anything from a part time spinner like Ravindra, but Ajaz may have contributed something. Moot point though.

Crazy catch and South Africa still haven't batted New Zealand out of the game. Plenty of time left.

SA have enough now I think.
This pitch is flat, if we can deal with Maharaj I'd back us to get 300. The LHers need to step up in this innings (Conway, Latham, Nicholls) because the threat of Maharaj will be much less pronounced to them. Obviously the first two need to get better than those two poor first innings dismissals. Latham's was massively ill-disciplined, and Conway's was poor technique - he seems to get himself out a bit flicking with his weight distribution going away to point, and either grazing behind or holing out.

Yes the pitch is flat, but this NZ batting lineup has a fragile look to it especially without KW to calm the horses. Wouldn’t be at all surprised to see a bunch more frivolous top order dismissals in the second innings.

I said 300 was chaseable but another 50-60 will take it all-but beyond reach. Any runs from here are demoralising too. This batting pair could do a lot of damage.
