Whoever's making these decisions is a joke. Can't have Smith play because it would "ruin the integrity of the competition" but every other Test player can play? Carey and Head for strikers? And it's ok for Sixers to lose half their team to Covid that doesn't affect "the integrity of the competition"?

Head and Carey were contracted by their BBL team. And they were contracted because it could be assumed that they wouldn't be in both the OD and test teams back during contract season, and so it made sense to contract them. The issue is that the handful of players who could be assumed to be busy with both those series, which is essentially Smith and Warner plus the fast bowlers, didn't get contracted because why waste a spot. And then the OD series was cancelled

The other factor was during the height of the covid drama, they established a back-up pool of players to be used for call-ups, so when the Sixers tried to bring Smith in to replace the spot Vince left (i think), the states said no you have to use the back-up pool. insane. and now they're using their assistant coach as a keeper anyway

Strikers losing to a team that has the assistant coach keeping after getting called up 5 hours before the game and a #8 opening the batting would be peak bbl.

Let's be real though the sixers team is still strong enough and more than half their team are first-choice players. Not as bad as the Heat and Stars earlier in the tournament fielding actual Grade teams

And this whole "Assistant coach got called up wow" is being overdone. It's not like he's a 45 year old fat **** that used to play club cricket at best. Lenton is just about the guy you would pick anyway and was playing BBL semi-regularly over the last couple years.
