Cricket stuff that doesn't deserve its own thread

How come a stack of batsmen start off great and revert to mediocrity but it seems nowhere near as many bowlers do?

You see blokes like Mark Taylor, Jimmy Adams to name but two really obvious examples averaging really high levels after like 20 odd tests and they get worked out, which is understandable. It even happens with a lot of blokes who start mid-40s and revert.

But it seems to me far less bowlers go from kicking off at a say 23-26 level average after say 20 odd tests and have it blow out to 28-30 odd by the end of their career.

Thinking about Bumrah and he hasn't played that many tests (27), but am very confident saying he's going to end up a sub 25 average bowler. Same with Cummins (37 played). But with a batsman like Labushagne, I'd be astonished if his average doesn't decline to the point where it's mid-high 40s/ low 50s by the end of his career. Still very good obviously, but with batsmen you have to be wary of the sky rockets - they light up the sky all pretty at the start, but after a while a burnt out stick falls to the ground.

I don't think that happens as much with bowlers, or is it just a perception thing on my part? I'm not talking about a Boland or Axar situation where they play a handful, talking about half decent sample sizes.
Philander comes to mind. Still finished with a pretty ridiculous average but he was only averaging like 16 after 20 Tests IIRC.

Oh yeah remember him, very gentle. Not even close to international standard from what I recall, but you could say that about pretty much that whole team
Surely, but the keeper standing up against a medium pacer really ties the batsmen up. He made full use of it, just kept bowling a tight line with out-swingers and ones that held the line.

I googled Syed Rasel's height and it's telling me 6'4"! There's no way that's true right? I remember him being closer to 5'4 if anything

Yeah that's a decent shout. TJB mentioned Hogg, but his whole career was like 30 something tests. He had a ridiculous start too, but it was a ridiculous start in one six test series. 41 wickets in a side getting absolutely belted is crazy stuff.

I've heard a lot of folks describing Bishen Singh Bedi's bowling as "poetry in motion". But for me, "poetry in motion" is always going to be Nathan Haurtiz's off spin. So bloody smooth. That action, the drift on the ball, and extra bounce, just so pleasant to watch.

Watched a few videos from The Grade Cricketer. Was impressed initially, but the pandering has to stop :thumbdown. They try too hard to impress the Indian fans, so many of those positive comments from them about Indian cricket seem fake. Just speak your mind, don't wait and pick your moments to cricitize the Indian players, some authenticity would be great.

Yea they’re still pretty good but certainly know where their bread is buttered these days.

They’re incredible when making content on non India stuff though.
