Of course it’s totally pointless to analyse Taylor’s batting now, but anyway…it feels like his belief in his own ability has dropped away faster than his actual ability. Looked like he would’ve been fine there if he hadn’t felt the need to throw caution to the wind once he played and missed once or twice.
the cbfs is as bigger factor as eye in retirement. Once you lose the desire to dig in it's not coming back.

Still back him to score a career-saving ton against SA. But seems like he needs to save his career every summer. To be fair, any batsman can get a duck at any time.
It's almost churlish to say it because every batsman gets chances, but it's felt in the last couple of years like poor fielding has kept Nicholls' spot in the side. Particularly the big hundreds against the Windies and Pakistan at home, because there's been very little around them.

Probably true in NZ conditions, though lack of belief overseas (especially India) was absolutely justified.

Possibly today less about lack of belief and more impatience, mentally ready to retire imo.
