***Official*** Bangladesh in NZ 2021-22

This is where I would ordinarily pontificate about the need to schedule a third test match because it would maintain the sense of jeopardy that NZ can still come back and win the series. Alas! This is no possible
To be fair to NZ, last time Bangladesh toured, there were three scheduled tests which pretty much no-one else has done for Bangladesh. The first two were won by an innings and we all thought "why bother with a third". The third test never happened because of the Christchurch mosque massacres.

Yeah Fergusons management was stupid (test debut at perth after a perfectly good opportunity at hamilton the previous game) and the selectors seem to think its his fault he wasnt match fit.

He should have toured England ahead of Duffy or Bracewell.

This following post is meant for humour
We have been too nice to Bangladesh over the years. As mentioned above we scheduled a three test tour a few years ago. We are always hosting them when no one else would. Now look at where kindness has got us.
They have become completely familiar with New Zealand pitch conditions and match tactics to the point they beat us!!!
Nice guys finish last.

From a global cricket perspective if Bangladesh have “finally arrived” the permutations for exciting tours, ICC tournaments, and match ups is significantly enhanced.

Trying to think of how to get Jayed into the side but Taskin and Shoriful were pretty handy weren’t they? If the deck flattens out as it often does in NZ then Jayed might struggle too.
I would say drop Yasir Ali for Jayed. Or Since Joy is injured, Yasir Ali to play and Jayed in for Joy would make sense

From new zealand perspective , how to improve the playing 11 . Two non performing Blundell and Ravindra . Who would improve the side ? Mitchell and ajaz surely ? Glenn Phillips is a very good cricketer . How to juggle the pack ? One of the seamers would need to go . Wagner is not the one !

It's a pretty terrifying tail with Mehidy at 7 tbh. Would prefer he was dropped for a batsman if the pitch is green enough to justify four quicks.

Shame we don't have a spinning all rounder to solve that problem. **** off Shakib.

Well played Bangladesh. For many years I have hoped that they would become a force in test cricket, if only for the sheer variety, and I also love an underdog win. I'd much rather they won against someone else, of course. They basically played the perfect test match. They reminded the world champions how to play the type of test cricket that got them to the 2021 final.

Speaking of that 2021 final, I can't help but think that it was some kind of pinnacle for New Zealand, the culmination of a long journey that erased some scars of 2019. The players would never admit it, but perhaps subconsciously they are not as hungry anymore, not as keen to put in that extra 5% of hard work. The only way to take this loss is as a kick up the backside. If this team wants to be remembered as a great one, we have to bounce back. We need to aim to get that no.1 ranking back.

You don't think Naim is good for tests?
I think Naim will be a good ODI player but unknown in longer version. Based on few t20s he got the gig here. Lets see how he plays if he gets the chance. Think Naim will replace Joy in second test and that will be the only change.

I like that Liton came ahead of Yasir in the second innings. He and Mominul share good chemistry in the middle.

I am a huge Taijul fan, and ideally would have wanted him to play in this game, but no way should a winning combination be changed. Shanto opening, yes...but replace a batsman with a batsman...it's Naim who's the other opening batsman.

It's been a combination of a bad luck and a little bad management for Ferguson. There was a long period where he was playing and improving at FC level without breaking down (unlike every other genuine quick from NZ), had around 140 FC wickets averaging in the low-mid 20s iirc. Towards the end of that stretch around 2018 NZ selectors really should have found a way to get him into the test side, but they didn't. It's a settled bowling attack but should have been ahead of Matt Henry as injury cover, at least - genuine quick bowlers with good averages are incredibly rare in NZ.

Finally called into the test XI against Australia for the 19-20 tour and of course broke down - very unlucky given he'd been pretty fit to that point. Then Jamieson arrived and was exceptional and took that fourth seamer spot. The disappointing part is that between ODIs/T20s/IPL and a couple of injuries (including a back injury), Ferguson has not played a single FC match since that Perth test. He's now 30 and although I haven't seen anything publicised about it, getting the feeling he's not going to get another chance at test cricket - both because of fitness concerns and because as a first choice limited overs player he'll barely play a first class match.

Maybe he was just destined to get injured anyway, but can't help but think what might have been.
Really hope this is not the fate of Ben sears. Simply cannot afford to debut express pace bowlers to the test arena in their late 20's unless they are built like a cement block. Pace will be down, durability might also be down. Get em in, get em used to the environment, get overs in their legs, let em find out how to manage the grind on their bodies at a young enough age.

Yes I think there's a good time around 24-27 to debut an express bowler in test cricket - of course plenty of cautionary examples of teams doing it too early as well, before the body has finished maturing and so causing permanent injury. Maybe possible to debut late 20s but need to have not become an ODI/T20/IPL fixture by then, because being a limited-overs specialist becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. That's the trap we've fallen into with Ferguson, as much as the injury issue.

I'm not 100% sold on Sears but he does have potential and is 24 in Feb. So if he's going to play test cricket (continues with good FC numbers etc), he should be making his test debut two seasons from now.

The signs have been there. They've been increasingly hard to beat at home and have had wins over the likes of Australia. As they grow in experience in confidence they'll start taking more wins off teams overseas. I remember in the 2000s people kept questioning why they were even a team, just a waste of time etc. It takes time for teams to become competitive at test level. NZ was extremely slow, as were Sri Lanka. Looks like it's all starting to pay off.

And fully agree with the second paragraph. Read this article this morning:

Don't think there'd be any Blackcaps staying up all night fretting about a win over Bangladesh. The Tigers wanted a win, were hungry for history, whereas it seemed like this was going to be a net session for the Blackcaps ahead of the SA series, for which there is something on the line (first ever SA series win), in the mean time they've been blind sided by the underdogs, which is what we've been for so long we've probably forgotten how it feels to actually want a win that badly.

Big kick up the backside definitely needed.

This is so important in cricket. Barely anyone gets let in at a glacial pace and for some reason the big boards in charge expect good quality for the money straight away while barely lifting a finger to help them develop. So ****ed up.
