I think natural ability wise Kishan is always superior & even during U19 days Dravid rated him higher than Pant. He has his issues with temperament & discipline otherwise he has a lot of De kock about how he plays his cricket. I was very impressed what he showed us this A tour. I expect him to leap frog Pant in LOIs sooner than Tests. Already grabbing his chances in few opportunities he has got.

I do agree that we might go with Kishan or someone else in LOIs, but Pant's the man for the test team.

Yeah Pant should not be playing LO cricket for India. His batting is honestly not at that level yet and it is messing up his long format game. His batting has a lot of moving pieces and we are complicating him way too much.

Siraj's fitness is the biggest variable. If he somehow looks better than he does first innngs, we'll be able to defend 200 odd, otherwise this is nowhere near enough.

Also, Pant's issues are very much mental. He is not trusting his regular cricket shots that can get him 4s initially. His drives, cuts, pulls and flicks. If he can play regular shots, he can still be 35(50) etc. in no time esp. in SA and Aus pitches. He can then see how he wants to take on the spinner or play more aerial shots. Right now he is succumbing in trying to live up to some mythical version of him created by the media.

Pant's best innings in tests have all been him batting normally at the start and switching to madman mode around 40-50 balls in. Was never a hit from ball one guy.
