I've not been impressed with Olivier. It reminds me of what I thought of him in the beginning before he was originally selected. I always wanted Dupavillon selected instead. Rabada has been a bit better, but still lacking decent consistency.

These two have sealed their spot in the side till Australia series. Won't be surprised if they go missing for next 4 odd tests and it wouldn't matter much for the team management.
Nah as long as bowlers are winning at home, these two are not going, this was their last chance and they cashed on it.

On a serious note, could it just be that our middle order has not had it easy? Rank turners at home and then tours to SENA. Would be worth trying a couple of youngsters but may be others in their place wouldn't have done any better? It can't be that Kohli, Puji and Rahane all turn into **** overnight right?

Rahane is not equally effective at home, and Pujara's batting style doesn't work when there is too much swing/seam movement on offer, rotating them with Iyer and Vihari might give a clearer picture.

Their techniques have been **** until their place was in question few times over the last year or two.

Dude, they're averaging Bumrah level.

He is definitely not the same bowler from 2019. I wonder who has actually seen him bowl for an extended period of time since he has been back in SA. Nortje has really been missed.

This stinks, for once I agree with the SABC commentators, this rebuilding is taking a looooong time - almost England level

Think Nortje in current form is missed, still think we lacking a genuine opening type bowler. I want to see Coetzee and Sipamla given an opportunity. If they can fast track Jansen, they can fast track those two as well.

What rebuilding has actually been done? There has not been a rebuild. And dropping players like Mulder for Olivier is not forward thinking...

Would have been a different ball game if he was fit. Complements Rabada really well. Will be great to see Marco, Lungi, KG and him in the same attack.

Yap, but all three become duds at once? Definitely something that we are missing here.
it's a vicious cycle

tough conditions - lack of runs- lack of confidence and form - techniques fall apart - top quality opposition bowlers pick apart the flaws - continue to struggle to score runs - remain low on confidence - things get worse

some new blood in the middle order would have

a) possibly led to more runs, with a fresh player hungry to perform, and whose flaws and kinks haven't been work out
b) eased some pressure on rahane/pujara by letting them player lower level cricket, work in nets, earn their spot back
c) help strengthen our squad depth so that when there's an injury we have someone ready to come in with test runs under their belt

but yea could have also just lead to us tossing in some rookie to the sharks and creating some scar tissue that would affect their career for years to come. So you can understand why they were unwilling to move past those 3.

Took long enough.... now for Rabada to instigate a huge collapse after ensuring that Pujara and Rahane are in next match!
