Must say I haven't really been impressed with Latham's captaincy in the small sample size with maybe the exception of Edgbaston last year.
Yep there's been a few people on here who had been very emphatic about how Latham was such an obviously superior captain to KW. Got to say, I've never seen any evidence for it. Admittedly I've missed most of this test, but the last test in India was poor to say the least, and as for other games where he's stood in - there was one of the floggings in Australia that I remember, also the second test over in England, and I think one or two games at home where KW was injured. For the games we won, nothing stands out as being due to any particular captaincy genius; it's simply a far easier game when all your bowlers are firing. That's not to say that KW doesn't have weaknesses as a captain too, but from what I've seen from Latham there's nothing to suggest he'd be far better. And (from an admittedly small sample size) it seems to affect his batting too.

Apologies, was not suggesting that you were being harsh or punching down, meant it to read as it would be harsh of the selectors / brains trust if they had now put Ferguson in a box marked 'too brittle to play test cricket' solely based on the one outing at Perth.
Yeah, definitely. Would be a shame to lose good bowlers like that.

If it's a green seamer at Hagley, doesn't that play into electric paceman Ebadot's hands(?)
Haha. We'll fare alright, hopefully our improved bowling will allow us to push it to four innings.

All I wanted from this series - as in my most optimistic expectation - was that the seamers would surprise them with their improvement and push both matches to four innings.

So I suppose at this stage we're still short.

@James and @Bahnz regarding Rachin
Yes learning should be done in FC rather than tests. However that rule didn't apply to Santner who was a young X factor prospect and he got 24 tests. Santner averaged 25 with the bat and 46 with the ball
Rachin has played 3 tests and averages 15 with the bat and 63 with ball

Rachin is coming into the team to replace Santner's role.
Would suggest Rachin's 18* vs India to save a test was an effort that Santner could not have made. So Rachin has saving a test on his resume already.

Would suggest 3 tests isn't a fair enough run.
Would personally give him both the second bangers test and the Saffer series.

Bahnz mentioned he didn't have a weight of domestix runs. He was averaging 38 as an opener. Based on an analysis I did you can add 5 runs to an openers average when comparing with a middle order player. So he would be averaging around 43 if he was down the order further.
Finally iirc Rachin has paid some dues appearing for NZA and has put in some good knocks for them.

I've thought about it, and I think that's the greatest performance from a touring side in NZ I've ever seen.Bangbros fans must feel top of the world. Pretty stoked for their long suffering CW posters.

There have been better teams and more on sided games, but never such an underdog win. Ever.

I'm curious how they will balance the side for Hagley. It's the worst ground in NZ and close to the world for spin bowling.

Speaking of decks, while I'm not surprised to see the IBS trolling the thread, green = carry in NZ, and they promise more to the quicks than they deliver. If pitches look more traditional they're just motorways. Mt Maunganui broke up day 4 which was a nice surprise because after lunch on day 1 it had that uni oval 2013 look to it.

Bangbros gotta avoid being trolled by the colour of Hagley like so many sides are, but bringing in Jayed would be smart.

Imagine dropping a bowler who took 10 wkts in his last test and blaming IBS for that ?
NZ deserve this loss for even thinking that spin doesn't matter. If you don't play your top spinner at home , how do you expect him to perform well overseas.
I mean...ajaz has. Sometimes cricket is played outside india.

And spin doesnt matter

Stop trying to be fake Burgey.
Even Australia fast bowlers regard Lyon as their main bowler and call him GOAT. In the words of Cummins , if things aren't happening we turn to Lyon and expect him to get wickets or keep the scoring rate in check.
