Chances of a Kiwi victory is virtually nonexistent but Banglas are playing into their hands

One of many indicators of just how lightly NZ took Bangladesh in this game was the way the tail batted on day 2. They had Nicholls established and 350-400 was still odds on, but then Jamieson and Southee proceeded to take the piss by looking to smash the ball and got chipped out for next to nothing.

I wonder if the mace actually is cursed. Does anyone wanna check series results of the 1st series immediately after winning the mace (or the #1 ranking) for the last few teams. E.g. South Africa 2008, Australia 2009, India 2009/10, England 2011, South Africa 2012, India 2013/14, Pakistan 2018, India 2019/20, NZ 2021.

Pakistan was 1 in 2016. Ind was then continuously till 2020.

Ind was 1 after beating NZ 3-0 in 2016 and then beat Eng 4-0

In 2009 Ind was no 1 after beating SL 2-0 and then won against Bang 2-0

Yes it was very 'we've got enough'.

Our tail may genuinely suck away from home but in NZ, like most sides, our tail usually contributes something big. Here it was terrible and some of that was just lax.
Jamieson - 6&0
Southee - 6&0
Wagner - 0&0*
Boult - 9*&8

And add
Blundell - 11&0
Rachin - 4&16

Was just bad.

Well played Banga, perfect really. Right toss call, broke partnerships regularly, wiped out the tail quickly. Bowled great areas with pace and great energy. Batsmen played compact and patiently.

Blackcaps had **** bowling plans, poor effort and energy (everyone is bowling 5-10km below expected). Batsmen played lose shots and couldn't get on top of the bowlers, barring Young and Conway. Blundell continues to look poor, Ravindra is not looking quite ready, Nicholls out of form. BC's need to put the hand up here and say we were ****. Who else have we got in the squad? Matt Henry FFS.
