***Official*** Bangladesh in NZ 2021-22

What is so exciting about this innings is that there have been so many substantial contributions from the batsmen and it was not just a freak Shakib/Tamin epic solo effort that propelled BD. That is a very promising sign for the future of BD, dodgy looking techniques of some of the batsmen notwithstanding.

Anybody else thinking this is looking a little like the NZ vs Eng Mount test? Team batting first on a flat pitch doesn't quite cash in (Eng 353, NZ 328, and the team batting 2nd slowly grinds to a handy lead by end of day 3 (NZ 6-394 so led by 41 with Watling 119*, Ban currently 4-350 so lead could be around 80 at stumps).

Can Mominul or Liton do a Watling double tomorrow? Do Bangers have someone like Wagner to take 5th day wickets on a flat pitch?

Was listening to Magic Talk earlier, when Jacob Oram was asked the inevitable question of whether we under-estimated or took Bangladesh easy...and he said sub-consciously, if anything. And I agree. A Test is a Test, but the way we batted suggested we weren't willing to get in the grind.

The way Mominul in particular has batted, is real Test cricket. Started slowly on a deck that isn't all that easy to score on, and has cashed in with the field spread and attacked when it was possible. The Mount has always been that way - it's not a ground that comes on to the bat and allows you to play strokes from ball one. Exactly how BJ scored his 200 two years ago, or Kane last year. But no one was prepared to play that way for us this year.

Might cost us in the worst way

Looks like I walked into a shared wrist slitting concert between (some of) the fans of both countries.
I'm not that way - I just acknowledge we didn't start in intense Test mode as we've played so much in the last couple of years, and as a result we are well behind the eight ball.

We have to accept though, that losing or drawing a Test at home to Bangladesh might be dire in terms of our WTC defense.

Yeah enjoy the fight while they are showing it ffs instead of the constant pessimism. Even I know a collapse would be a more likely outcome at some point later in the test but it's not often that Bangers put up such fight and it's a good advertisement for test cricket in general.
It's frustrating as **** that's what it is. Clearly this is a quality side that can play, why the **** do they put in just 1 good performance a year?

Hope the humiliation at home vs Pak has finally created a desire to win.

How does the pitch behave by day 5 here generally?
Just slow and low. It's never broken up massively, but the odd one shoots. We had to earn our win over Pakistan last year by just being consistent in banging away, and England just kinda gave up in 2019.

It's not a one man show here. What's pleasing to see is multiple players contributing as Teja pointed out which is generally a good sign.

Pretty sure this was the game was where Root made Archer's elbow practically disintegrate

Whatever it takes!!!
I'm glad to see Mominul getting solid runs again but Das is my current fave Bangers player.
This. Still think BD are not out of danger or woods yet given it is SENA and they are BD. But this has been mighty impressive from them so far. Their best bet is to tire NZ out totally and hope to ambush them in the second innings.

It's Day 3. Their aim, as unrealistic as it may be, should be to bat until at least halfway to tomorrow and declare with the aim of forcing an innings result.

No thoughts of acceleration or declaration at all today. Just bat, and bat, and bat.
Yep, the template for Bangladesh should be NZ’s 2019 win over England, which transpired in alarmingly similar manner to the way this match has played out to date.

I guess that happens when you spend 200 overs in the dirt, that someone has to bowl the overs. Everyone else bowled 30+, Root and Stokes apart. My memory is of Archer not exactly racing in during that Test
