Look it was fine when people said the test would be rolled over in two days prior to the start of the game. But give Bangers some credit and stop this dire posting continuously in this thread about a potential Bangers collapse.
never rule a lollapse out of the equation with this team.

A wicket here and they'll be bowled out for <400. I don't trust this lot chasing 150 either.

Bangladesh has never ever drawn a test in a SENA country!

They scored 600 in 1st innings in Wellington in 16/17 and still lost comfortably on day 5.

Until they defy what they have always done, I won't believe it. It rained for close to 3 days in the 2nd test at home vs Pak, and they still lost by an innings. There were only 7 sessions left in the match. Pak batted for 3 sessions and declared... And rolled bangers over twice in less than 4 sessions!

Nah shud bat normally and see if they can get to 425. Strategic batting should only come in after that. They could still be 350 ao in these conditions.
They were too slow earlier and the same pace would have given them no choice other than a draw but going about the job perfectly right now post tea picking up 4-5 runs each over.

Ravindra will be a quality test top 6 batter (probably opener). His part-time spin bowling is a bonus. Santner was was normally picked as the 4th bowler (with de Grandhomme taking the batting all-rounder + 5th bowler role). So not "the exact same sort of player" .

If we picked Ajaz ahead of Ravindra we would have 5 bowlers. Aussie don't pick 5 bowlers. They pick 4 bowlers and a batting all-rounder.
To all intents and purposes Ravindra is currently occupying the role that Santner was. He's the clayton's 'holding' type spinner who is also supposed to do a job with the bat.

Haven't been able to watch the last 2 days but this is going a bit crap isn't it? We really should have made at least another 70 runs and it sounds like we've been off with the ball, and now the pitch has flattened out completely.

There's always the possibility of a total Bangla collapse, but this team looks a bit tougher than previous iterations. Will be interesting how we bat in the second innings (once it gets there).

That's true, I was being slightly tongue in cheek (although I remember the Guardian OBO did describe our line up that way!). Note McCullum top scored in the first test - Taylor's first ton was on the first test of the return series in England.

No, in the first test in Hamilton Taylor batted at no 5 and scored 120 c & b Pietersen. Kyle Mills bowled NZ to victory. Taylor got his 100 in England in the 2nd test.

Don't like this round-the-wicket short attack from Jamieson. His strength is attacking the stumps and just outside. These two batsmen look very very comfortable right now and why not, great day for batting. Only Wagner looks like making something happen.

Also re any comments that Ajaz would have made a difference because it will turn, or even that Bangladesh will regret only have one spinner to try spin themselves to victory as the pitch breaks up... it won't.

I think a more competent and confident team would be scoring at 3.5 on this deck and be 50-60 runs further ahead but after the last 24 months of Deshi test cricket I can deal with them choosing to be cautious and not embarrass themselves.

I think it's just been a combination of a lot of things.

If anything is embarrassing as Burgey so arrogantly suggested (remembering his side has lost a Test to Bangladesh, we haven't...yet...), it was our lack of ruthlessness with the bat. It had a real air of 'oh well we'll bowl them out' when it was a flat as hell deck we could've scored 500 on if we'd applied ourselves better. Shoriful bowled well but there were so many rubbish dismissals.

We certainly haven't bowled well enough, with a couple of near misses, a bad non-review etc on a flat, flat deck.

Yeah enjoy the fight while they are showing it ffs instead of the constant pessimism. Even I know a collapse would be a more likely outcome at some point later in the test but it's not often that Bangers put up such fight and it's a good advertisement for test cricket in general.
