Pretty much on board with this. Although I think getting pantsed by an overseas spinner on day 4/5 at home is something which needs to happen to us sooner rather than later.Yes and no. I don’t agree with minimising how good we are to that extent - no team is perfect and we still have various weaknesses in various conditions, but imo we won the WTC and got to world #1 because we were at least near enough to #1. I don’t believe there’s anything to ‘expose’, we’re just a flawed side like all sides.
I do agree though that a sort of artificial smugness might have crept in (among fans if not players) and it’s a timely reminder that our players are not actually destroyers of worlds and we need to take home series against ‘lesser’ opposition seriously. Can’t just say ‘don’t you know we’re a big team now’ and expect them to fall in a heap.
that would be good for them, but still a mountain away at the moment.Bd should go a bit aggressive now and declare with a lead of 200-250 before lunch tomorrow. They can then push for an innings win.
Spark judging by this thread you have a lot to answer for the crap coverage many are receiving. It's Day 3. Their aim, as unrealistic as it may be, should be to bat until at least halfway to tomorrow and declare with the aim of forcing an innings result.
No thoughts of acceleration or declaration at all today. Just bat, and bat, and bat.
We call it "getting Spark'd" for a reason ?Spark judging by this thread you have a lot to answer for the crap coverage many are receiving.
Back in 2008 CSK opened with Hayden and Parthiv. Not this good but was funny to see them walk out together live
Could have done more outside the subcontinent, he looks a million dollars in Bangladesh.Mominul's played some rash shots today but for the most part he's put together a 40 average test career by being aware of how **** he is and adjusting his approach accordingly. Couldn't possibly have got more out of his ability than he has.
Look it was fine when people said the test would be rolled over in two days prior to the start of the game. But give Bangers some credit and stop this dire posting continuously in this thread about a potential Bangers collapse.Don't see Bangers getting a lead in excess of 100.
NZ will then score at least 350 by lunch on day 5 and set target of 250+ with 2 sessions to go and Bangers will get rolled over.
quickly back NZ now @$5 before all that starts happening!Don't see Bangers getting a lead in excess of 100.

Ravindra will be a quality test top 6 batter (probably opener). His part-time spin bowling is a bonus. Santner was was normally picked as the 4th bowler (with de Grandhomme taking the batting all-rounder + 5th bowler role). So not "the exact same sort of player" .Bangladesh had limited preparation as well.
We have a conservative mind-set as a cricketing nation and it often works to our detriment. We have dropped one 'sort-of' spinner who bats a bit in Santner and have looked to replace him with the exact same sort of player in Ravindra. We would be better off picking Ajaz and asking the lower order players to lift and provide some runs in the same way the Aussie lower order does. Southee has never improved as a batsman, he's never been asked to man up and take on greater responsibility with the bat, and maybe Jamo is now going down the same path...too much molly-coddling and being treated as a border-line nuffy with the bat, rather than saying "we back you to do a job for us". If you don't ask people to rise to a challenge then they probably never will.
I agree. Slow, low turn - very easily played on the back foot.tbh reckon Ajaz would look unthreatening. But the yarns about how we should have picked him write themselves don’t they.
When I posted this Southee hadnt bowled one 8 feet down the legside and gotten away with it. That's it, cancel the wide. The sport is dead.Umpires are far far to shy about widing bowlers in tests.
