3rd Test at Melbourne - December 26 - 30

So frustrating. If the top 3 could even have got 20 each, then a Root/Stokes partnership could put us in a decent position. As it is, a 100 partnership from them is unlikely to be enough unless we get a rare bit of white ball style hitting from Jos. Bah.

On the plus side Jimmy is averaging 14 for the series

If Australia win tommorow, will this be the quickest time in which Ashes has been retained?
It’s been retained by the 3rd Test plenty of times, as even in the six Test days they tended to go in as holders. In terms of playing days I don’t know.

I'd be surprised if this will be the shortest number of playing days. I vaguely remember the ashes being decided in 9 days, but please don't ask me when that happened.

Love the fact that you have completely ignored the possibility of Bairstow contributing.

Is it really such a bad pitch? That's hardly a requirement for this England side to collapse.
perhaps it's not as bad as I make out, a combination of very good bowling and poor batting.
however it seems to be bouncing and zipping through quickly quite regularly.
Starc bowled a ball just short of a good length and it almost took Hameed's head off!

eng 4/31 trail by 51. best batters in now or to come, so its possible 150-200 i think max. so that means aus will max chase 120.
