I wonder whether Australia should bring their slip fielders up a pace or two, I would rather they drop a potential catch, rather than having the ball fall short of them.
It could be a tough day.

Hard to take him very seriously as an analyst though, and other commentators that could probably be described that way to various degrees (Botham, Warne) I actually find absolutely insufferable, so I'm not entirely sure why I find it different with Waugh.
I think the difference for me is that Waugh doesn't really carry on the same way that Warne does re: telling it like it is, he's less likely to pull a long obnoxious rant.

As for Botham, it might be a matter of different comm teams - on Sky there were plenty of others who could tell it like it is and you could trust as analysts. Less common on Fox.

I think the last one was always likely to drop short no matter how far you go. But given England had a couple of catches drop short too, it's probably a sign that they should be closer.

Yeah Junior is a "straight talker" but he's easy going and not an ongoing ranter. He won't spend a session moaning about the same thing. Unless he's talking about Sean Abbott (which will always be a great meme) he's not repetitive.

You're right that Botham might seem more annoying compared to actually good commentators like Atherton and Hussain than Waugh does when compared to Hussey, Howard, Warne etc too. Ruins the vibe.

Think Australia have been a bit unlucky here, we're bowling pretty well to quality batting. Get the feeling one could mean five.

I actually find him a bit of a guilty pleasure. I've always enjoyed that he doesn't mince his words when he thinks someone is ****house - it's a breath of fresh air from the corporatespeak you get from the other comms.

I just find his blokey banter shite so irritating. I dunno who Howie is, but he is an absolute little slug as well. I think the rest are all really good though in general.

He's not even about that, he's just a grumpy Aussie Dad. You're describing warnie way more I feel

Mark Howard.

I don't really hate him, but he has to be the luckiest broadcaster of all-time. Literally only got where he is because he was one of the few sport people left on Ten and everyone started raving about their coverage.

Anyway this whole discussion should probably go in the commentary complaints thread.

Scoring pretty well against Lyon, he's looked a threat at times against Malan but not clamping us like he sometimes does

Australia want to get through their overs as quickly as possible. There are 70 overs left to be bowled today and 46 overs to the second new ball.
They would like at least 20 overs with it under lights if England are still batting.
