I don't follow enough Indian cricket to know what normally happens when teams tour India.

But I assume it was BCCI as host country administrators that would have set the itinerary to have the T20I games the week before the test series. I don't think it would have been a request from NZC to have T20Is then a 3 day gap as a preferred build up.
They didn't have to use the same players in both formats... and for the most part they didn't. I don't think there's any real reason this eleven couldn't have played a warmup game while the T20Is were happening (the only common player was Mitchell, who's only playing because Kane is injured anyway). India do that sort of thing all the time.

This sort of thing does happen to visiting teams, but man did they have to reserve this batting effort for immediately after Ajaz’s feat.

Let it go. Let's be gracious in defeat.
True Fuller probably a bad time to start talking about such things.
But I can assure you it's not sour grapes, I love the Indian cricket team and congrats to them in advance.
But even more so I just love cricket, so when you're excited about 5 days of test cricket and it's always over
well before then, I feel robbed!
Will never forget that series against England earlier this year, and watching the dust puff up every ball.....it's just
overwhelmingly gross, and completely wrecks the game.

Yeah would've preferred this happen in the first test.

Fmd, we can't have nice things. I know we won the wtc but still. Stand up and have a bit of spine batsmen please. After the draw last test I thought this would be our best chance at winning a test and series in India. We'll be lucky to make them bat again.

That said how many times have sides won after following on? Vvs Taylor to the rescue

NZC wanted the team to return home before Xmas and at the time when the itinerary was made, there was 14 days of quarantine at the border, so the series had to completed by 7th or 8th of December max in order to return by 10th Dec + 14 days quarantine = 24th December -- just out in time for Xmas.

So thats the reason for no warmups!

Apparently the rumour after Ajaz got his 10, is that the blackcaps celebrated quickly with a bottle of champagne.
It didn't appear to help the batsman much:)

India clearly want more batting practice huh. Fair enough, they could bat to tea on day 5 and still win.
