***Official New Zealand in India Nov-Dec 2021 Thread***

Yeah, I wouldn't be too upset about it if it had happened to NZ. One thing I do think though is that India shouldn't have lost their review - why does that only happen when it's umpire's call on ball tracking?
Yeah, I remember pretty much the exact same thing happened to BMac (think during the 2012 India tour as I remember Hesson storming into the third umpires box to argue about it). Ultimately the right call even if the on-field decision was rough as there’s obvious doubt that should be going to the batsman.

Of course I was joking about betting 500 dollars on the toss. Should have, though. I’m wondering if there is a technique to tossing the coin where it will land how you want it to more than 50% of the time. Most captains call “heads.”

New Zealand has done a great job of sucking the enthusiasm out of this test. I can’t recall bring more uninterested in the start of a test match since the 3rd test in Australia. And this was meant to be one of the biggest opportunities in the careers of these players. A chance to win a test series in India. FFS.

I hope we can somehow take wickets with the new ball and restrict India to around 350. And then hope the pitch remains good for batting. But you just know if Ajaz can take 6/100 then Ashwin can take 6/40.

Tbh most problems were out of NZ's control - didn't choose for Williamson to have a sore elbow/colon or to lose the toss or for Ravindra to apparently be ill. And within our control but unfortunate for Jamieson to have an off-day - hasn't really had one in test cricket until now.

Glaring exception of course is not selecting Wagner, made even worse by how poorly Somerville ended up bowling. Dumb. We'd be 20 runs better off at worst, with potentially more wickets had we chosen Wagner.

India were 258/4 at the close of the first day in the first test, so pretty similar to the score here. However like everyone I'm not expecting our Williamson-less batting to stand up as well first innings this time - the pitch suits India's spinners more. And first match we relied on Southee and Jamieson bowling at their absolute peaks which can't happen every time, so I don't know where the remaining 6 wickets are coming from other than Ajaz.

What a legend! The best he's ever done in FC cricket is a six-for - would be amazing if he could beat that here (but also terrifying in terms of what the Indian spinners will be able to do later...).
