I think it was very definitely inside edge onto pad and I dont think it was a decision most umpires would give out LIVE. Even if it was pad first, it is the sort of decision most umpires would say not out and let the fielding side take the review if they choose to. I think it was a rough decision on Anil Chowdhary's part but it is hardly a shocker.
And the 3rd umpire absolutely did the right thing if he thought the evidence he had was not conclusive enough. The rules are such that it does come down to individual judgement and it was close enough that it made sense he stayed with the onfield decision.
Mayank definitely created undue pressure by just letting Ajaz bowl as many dot balls as he did. If he had shown the enterprise we saw AFTER Virat got out much earlier, they may have already had Rachin or someone bowling this end and we won't be in this strife. Its a lesson on why and where proactive batting works in test cricket.
Ajaz has been extremely impressive and I think he was a bit undercooked at Kanpur. I was too harsh on him. He has been a pleasure to watch as a spin bowling fan here. His height helps him toss the ball up even as a regular release, I feel and he is in wonderful rhythm here.
Also I think it was
@nzfan who said Sommerville has no idea how to bowl on these wickets and I completely agree. He has the attributes and skillsets to be very successful in Indian conditions but I think he has not figured out how to bowl or maybe spooked himself out a bit mentally about bowling here. With his height and style of release, he has to have at least 5-4 offside fields and keep bowling outside off and challenge both edges. But for some reason, he is doing the Gabba Washy strategy. That only works on bouncy tracks where batsmen can't always keep their flicks or wristy shots down.
