*Official* Yorkshire CCC racism crisis thread

Seriously though, when did "Yid" become a term of offence?
It's long been an anti-semitic slur in the UK and America. Pre dates the second world war and was used by the British Union of Fascists. Tottenham supporters adopted it because it was historically the centre of Jewish life in London and the club has many Jewish supporters, in the same way some black people use the n-word or Pakistanis use the p-word.

All this makes me yearn for the days when people didn't (want to appear to) take things so seriously (to fit in) and people knew how to (appear to) take a joke (while internalising their objections). When did people get so sensitive (to other people's actual feelings)?

I remember when this country had ****ing BOLLOCKS!

^but seriously though, I have my own objections to paranoid and performative wokeness and the current culture of censorship, but this **** at Yorkshire is one of the clearer cases of actual problematic things happening and needing to be met head-on.

Whatever it takes!!!
Its gonna take its time though. Even more than individuals, the sad thing is it seems to be so cultural and it takes a while to change cultures within communities, even small ones. :(

Its really not that offensive to all the Jewish people i know. Its mainly only used by football fans. .

It really hasn't been a slur. Newspapers and TV broadcasters were using it not too long ago. It was totenhams nickname aswell as lilywhites.
But the fans 100% use yids as their name and you can still hear them singing it loud at every game. I live in North London a few miles from whl and I haven't met anyone yet who is offended by it and all the Jewish guys at my rugby club hate they being told they can't use their football clubs nickname any more. It all started with David baddiel (a Chelsea fan) about 5 years ago who started to protest against it being used and it gained traction ever since. Totengam fans like it as they say they are proud of their area and connection to Stamford Hill.
But anyway in 2011 the y word movement wasn't a thing at all

Having played at yorkshire for over a decade and been its most famous and best player during that time whilst apparently never hearing or seeing anything untoward, Joe root has now been embarrassed into making a statement saying the club needs to change its culture.

A shiver looking for a spine to run up. Was interviewed two weeks ago and refused to answer questions in this. Now comes out mouthing platitudes. Ordinary

Siri, show me a conclusion based on biases and irrational dislike/jealousy rather than evidence

Also, noted how @cnerd123 is liking every post that throws unsubstantiated mud at Joe Root, what a little scrote.

Have it on good authority that the slander infraction button is due a workout. You bunch of imbeciles.

I mean, he hasn't though has he? I think you're grossly overestimating how much domestic cricket England players play, particularly blokes who play 3 formats. He's more akin to a ringer who drops in for the occasional hit.
Find it hard to believe he wouldn't know if there was racism within the club. He's chums with Gaz Balance after all.

So while I object thoroughly to people having jobs stripped from them for stupid tweeting, and while I also think individuals should be free to express themselves politically however they wish, this seems like a huge cultural bullying problem at YCCC that needs to be fixed.

Sporting clubs are high testosterone environments and people like to tear the **** out of each other verbally in such places. I don't think that should stop, because one man's verbal abuse is another man's bonding session and context needs to be taken into account when looking at these things. I also think more leeway needs to be given to things said behind closed doors.

But the problem here is that this doesn't seem to be one or two friends ribbing each other and going too far. It seems to be a widespread culture that needs to change. And it doesn't have to be difficult to change it. Penalties to players who are overly racist would be a good start.

i read the brothers karamazov last year on my commutes and the amount of casual antisemitism in there is so rogue

it's got an omniscient third party author who ****in loves to rave about "the yids", who are all, suspiciously, merchants in the book. dostoevsky was out there on the watson grind
