On Overton, he also gave this toe curling interview on the subject earlier this year:

In recent years Overton has talked about maturing with age, sessions with a psychologist and lessons learned regarding his on-field behaviour. He reiterates this once more: “As you get older, you mellow a little bit, understand what you can and can’t do. I’ve realised that you can’t go around doing what I was doing then and I’ve learned ways to deal with my emotions.” But anger cannot be used to mask allegations of racist abuse. “I don’t believe I said it,” he says when I press him about the Zaidi incident and the alleged remark.

“I don’t believe that I’m that sort of character. We’ve had Azhar Ali in our changing room and I’m the first one to go up and speak to him in the changing room and have a chat with him. I’m not that sort of person. Sometimes in the heat of the moment, when I was younger, I could be a bit feisty, and I’ve definitely calmed down as a person from then.”

Hahahaha

What's he mean here, that he's been stitched up for something he didn't say, or he still can't believe he said it?

Haha this is dreadful. "I can't have said that, I have a Pakistani friend!"

I don't disagree. But the sign of that happening will start tomorrow, with a creditable performance. Getting blasted off the park here would be... not great.

Same way that I felt that India was still in the series after 36ao, but it hinged on a good performance Day 1 at Melbourne. The instant response is the most important one.
Nah I don’t think performances can carry between matches with two such volatile lineups.

England completely imploded on the last day at Lords, didn’t make any difference today.

England - 3 in 2019
NZ - 2 in 2013
Pakistan - 3 in 2010
West Indies - 2 in 2004
SL - 2 in 2001
Australia - 2 in 1984
South Africa - 2 in 1957
India - 3 in 1952
Surely we put up double digits twice in 2010? Pakistan skittled us at Headingley in that neutral series there (you know, the one where people thought Salman Butt was a good captain).

shame cause I think he is much improved. has a bit of extra pace and a real toughness and grit about the way he plays.

but he also 100% bemoans asylum seekers crossing the English channel and talks about the 'blitz spirit' as something this country misses now days.

He's the first to go up and have a chat to him as well. No dilly-dallying like some of the other lads, he's straight in there. "Awright Azhar? Good day for it today!" And would a racist do something like that if he didn't have to, mmm?

Yeah well spotted. They were at opposite ends of 2010 so I didn't realise.

This doesn't even make the top 3 of best day 1 of a test for me.

MCG 2010 clearly top.
Trent Bridge 2015
Edgbaston 1997

All against Australia and all counted more.

Hameed making runs is easily the best thing about today.
Don't think we have had a player that everyone wants to succeed so much before. Partly because of his nightmare run and finding his way back and partly because we so desperately need him to perform to give us something up top.

Not convinced by Hameed just yet. Been fed garbage outside off and to his credit has cashed in. But there's something about his front foot defence and the way he thrusts his pad forward that looks vulnerable against probing length and the incoming delivery in particular.
