If by a minor chance Sir Jadeja is dropped for the first test, there will be only 2 batsmen in this test match, Pant and Root, against a plethora of bowlers.

If they drop Jadeja, be prepared for 0-5. A catastrophe in the making. And no sympathies whatsoever for dropping the most valuable cricketer in the world and getting drubbed.

I know it's both genuine and recurring but I'm really amazed at how pessimistic Indian fans seem to be here. Anderson and Broad aren't exactly their 2015-18 selves still.

Indian batting lineup is definitely short of form, and playing in English conditions is the hardest place for them to regain it. It'll be fantastic watching!
That's a shitload better batting line up than England's tbh.

The absolutely key player for England this series is Rory Burns. If he doesn't score at least reasonably heavy at the top they're ****ed. The rest of that batting side is middling FC standard at best, Root excepted.

Virat has to get out of his own head a bit and see how to get runs than just trying to play every ball in the most perfect way possible. That has only gotten pretty 40s and 70s at best.
A rare insightful post from HB here. Needs to be more Smith than Hobbs at times, if it means getting the job done.

Yeah you think they’ve declined a lot since then?

These 3 fast bowlers surely can’t play 5 tests and with Woakes and Archer out I think there’s quite a big drop off after Robinson. With the attack as strong as it’ll be all summer this game is probably England’s best chance.

Tbf in 15-18 they were near unbeatable in English conditions if they were actually paying attention, they were obviously going to decline from that.

Downplaying how bad indias batsmen are at playing swing pre series, call us overly pessimistic and then do a shocked Pikachu when india keep getting bowled out for sub 300 every game. I'm surprised Cw hasn't gotten tired of this routine yet good god.

The only reason we semi competed in individual tests in 2018 was because Kohli had an amazing series (with a healthy share of luck) and Bumrah bowled great spells every game. They both look pale shadows of their 2018 versions atm.

Maybe better not to regard Broad and Anderson as a single entity, especially as there's a fair difference in their ages. Anderson's performances against NZ concerned me, but he's proved me wrong more than once before, so who knows.

One doesn't have to look beyond the recently concluded WTC final to see how inept Indian batsmen are against swing. Pant and Jadeja are our best batsmen on current form, the only ones who could hold a bat in the lower order, and the team management is contemplating dropping one of them for "better balance".

On reputation, don't expect Kohli to win tosses either. And that indeed creates room for a lot of pessimism.
