I mean the people after that. Those guys are already in the mix. I guess 'next cab off the rank' wasn't the right terminology. I guess, where's the next crop of domestic players who'll be sticking their hands up for selection. Some of your list of players aren't wholly convincing, tbh.

I don't think there are any identifiable ones yet.

No one younger than Ravindra / Allen (who are 22 now) have even probably debuted yet in domestics (apart from those tour game warm ups). Edit. Actually - Georgeson, who is same as above mentioned, is only young batsman to have come through in last year to domestics. (Double Edit: and Katene Clarke)

McClure, Carter, Cooper are those who have got 'A' opportunities.

Based mostly on very small sample size of the T20 final, but, I like the cut of Troy Johnson's gib.

Looking him up, I see has good stats so far in all 3 formats, but not many games yet.

Luke Georgeson definitely for future. Maybe not in the next couple of years but in the long term in red ball cricket. Watched fair bit of him and he looks really good. Good technique, slow but definitely looks like someone that can bat time which is rare to see.

Cooper and Carter from ND, Leo Carter and McClure from Canterbury. Proven and quality performers at domestic level but when played for NZ A have come up a bit short. If they can have reasonable performances at NZ A Cooper and Carter are two players that will play for Black Caps in future.

Jakob Bhula hasn't kicked on at all, he was a super star at u19 level.

O'Donnell brothers and Troy Johnson also come to mind but they have much to prove given their unorthodox style of batting.

Normally, I would have watched more domestix, but new baby in the summer meant I saw much less than normal.

The test matches is quite some distance. Pakistan and Bangladesh white ball tours next up. Going to be interesting picking a squad without

Kane, Santner, Sodhi, Kyle, Boult, Allen, Seifert, Milne, Lockie, Neesham...

That's core white ball bunch that'll miss.

Is Rosco going to make a comeback one last time in T20s then?

Depending on whether ECB makes the England players available, more NZ players may get IPL deals as replacements for the England players. So few more could potentially miss out.

Been thinking about our squad to India. Do you think we'll see any bolters? Theo van Woerkom gets picked a lot for NZ A. His record is perfectly fine for an NZ FC spinner, where averaging under 40 is a noteable achievement. Cole McConchie is another, and he's a proper allrounder at FC level.

I think Rachin Ravindra will tour, but offering up another left hander to Ashwin is risky business. India's batsmen are mostly right handers, so we might not need an offspinner which helps team balance a lot.

I almost certainly have the 11 wrong but I think I have the 15. Mitchell Santner isn't in Ravindra's class with the bat (or even Lord Colin's) or Ajaz' with the ball, and Ravindra is the upmarket version of Spin Isn't Real which Williamson has always subscribed to.

I would be tempted to leave Lord Colin at home and take Lockie Ferguson over. Matt Henry did his job in England but India will be pretty unforgiving for him. Ferguson's extra pace diversifies our options, plus he's the better red ball bowler imo.

Mark Chapman as a bolter, based on nothing but him bowling in t20s every now and again.

Henry actually did alright on NZ's last tour of India iirc (Southee was injured at the time so he actually got the new ball). I wouldn't go into a test match in India without 2 dedicated spinners. Rachin is still a part timer, he can't be relied on to bowl with the control and intelligence that is required. I'd play Ajaz and Sommerville, pick 2 of the 4 seamers (probably Southee and KJ, though Wagner and Boult are better with reverse so it's not a straightforward decision) and depending on the pitch make a call about who out of Rachin and Colin plays.

Perhaps, but he had a perfectly decent season for Auckland in the shield (16 @37 - notably better than Ajaz). I don't rate Rippon for the sub-continent. You need guys who can land a ball on a dime in those conditions, that's not Rippon (and its not Santner either). Maybe Louis Delport, but I'm not sure if he's qualified yet. Joe Walker another possibility.

Ajaz should be the bowler getting the majority of our overs, the secondary spinner is more for additional variety and if it really goes crazy day 4 or 5.

But generally Southee pretty much does as well as any of our spinners in those conditions...

Somerville looked good when I saw him a couple of times at EPOO last season. Bowls with control and gets some bounce. I assume he will go to India and be battling with a seamer for the final spot in the playing XI (play either de Grandhomme + Somerville, or Ravindra + 3rd seamer).

McConchie not mentioned by Bahnz but not needed as a test batting all-rounder + part time spinner now that we have Ravindra.
