What's the point in having a test championship involving 5 day tests and then making the final a timeless test which is completely different and would involve different strategies. I think there is an argument for having unlimited reserve days, but timeless tests I disagree with

the fact that there is a reserve day at all is already pretty unusual. You already don't have that in regular Test cricket.

A timeless test could be quite unwatchable as well. Imagine the pitch is a flat one, and teams decide to bed in for 3.5 days of batting to pile on 800.

If we push towards unlimited reserve days for the final, the question will be how do you decide when to end the game. Are we going off hours of play, or a number of overs? I'd rather hours of play, because capping a Test to a certain number of overs does not sit right.

I think it's pretty cool. A further reward for the finalists. They also get to say that they were part of a timeless test unlike the plebs they massacred to get here.

And BJ Watling will start cancelling his retirement plans.
Last day of test cricket for the great man. Hope he’s not required with the bat unless it’s to hit the winning runs.

Taylor too must be close to, if not actually playing his last test. Would be really cool if he could sign off with a win, though if it lives up to the sunny forecast that probably won’t be the case. Shared trophy not a bad way to go either.

I put NZ as favourites here. I'm just not seeing a draw happening. I think this will move quickly and there'll be lots of wickets today.

Assuming we get all 98 overs in, India's best chance IMO is if they get bowled out simply because I couldn't see them dangling the carrot risking a declaration that will give them a viable chance.

Yeah I think they will set something awkward but not good like 170 and we will have to force it in testing conditions. This will create wickets.
