Stumped!

Another hammering. Strange game. 4 run outs and 10 drops.
Not seen much of the commentary back yet but that did stand out to me. You had the better bowling, I had the better batting but a big difference in fielding so was to my surprise to see all our 4 wickets lost to run outs!

We Would have been better slogging everything outside off stump lol. It sounds like your players in this game at least shift from amateurs when the ball is in the air to prime Jonty Rhodes as soon as the ball is on the ground.

Schmaltzberg at 173/4, needing 74 off the last 15 overs. Bill Manning upping the run rate nicely, Fox just holding on to an edge from Pewar to bring the stubborn Buckland in.

Their tail is worse than Morpork's, hoping scoreboard pressure plus the reverse swing of Clarke might be the difference.

edit: and van Heerdens entices a rash shot, chopped on to midwicket...56 needed off 12 overs. Manning needs to bad with the tail.

Manning badded with the tail indeed

Gwong Long retires, becomes coach

The ZCC and Dynamo Morpork stalwart Gwong Long has announced his departure from professional cricket. The 32yo professional, a legend at ZCC before stepping down the leagues, scored 6,371 runs in professional competitive cricket, and became known for his no holds barred approach to the game, scything down attacks at will. With ZCC, he won five league titles in South Africa, also top scoring in S24 Twenty20; his career with Dynamo was mainly as a mentor and friendly specialist, playing 76 friendlies and scoring at well above seven runs an over.

Long is already an accomplished batting coach (level 5) and physiotherapist (level 7) but given the club is well stocked in those areas, Dynamo are open to offers should he wish to return to other pastures under the CW umbrella.

I think FHK might be willing to offer him a contract. We have a 6/4 batting/physio coach atm who is 36. Gwong is a similar level of skill, younger, and ofc a ZCC legend.

Strong performance from Dynamo Schmaltzberg against ataraXIa in the overnight DEV friendly. After the top order self destructed to Ndaba while trying to up the scoring rate, Steenkamp cleaned up by raking 75 in quick time, two solid partnerships with Loey and then allrounder Payne. 232 runs on the board was always gonna be difficult, with the wicket offering plenty for the spinners and some uneven bounce too, so once the batsmen went after the quite disciplined bowling it was clear what way runs would come. Sammy Payne clear MOM with 45 not out and four wickets.

Apologies I've been a bit quiet on Stumped front - combination of the Euros being on and PC in repair over the last week and a half. So accessing from phone. Hope to get it back in coming days and will schedule a few more friendlies then.

Am I wrong in thinking touch is important? As in it can give a significant boost to players during matches?

@cnerd123 did you reject a friendly I sent? Or am I going nuts?
I don't think I did?
ZCC is looking for a game to play tomorrow. If you challenge us I'll accept it.

Its importance is up for debate. I personally don't notice it a huge deal. I think its effects are minor compared to all the other variables in play, and I've never dropped/selected a player purely on the basis of touch.

Sent a challenge to ZCC for tomorrow morning and to affiliate for Thursday!

Thanks. I just noticed that sometimes players seemed to almost play above skill when in good touch and thought it may be making a difference.

Steenkamp, who scored an out of the blue century against ZCC last Thursday (dude has 24 skill and only 6 shot selection), has really high touch rn

It's a factor but I would only consider it for must win promotion clashes or something

Going into the off season…
For CWC league, Mooo appears to be the weakest going into that competition…batsmen are, to use an FTP term, listless. They can’t bat to save their lives. Amateur stuff! Much like the current Windies side.

FHK cruising vs ataraXIa in a Dev friendly today. In hindsight after our last result I should have used this game to give the younger kids more to do, but I was busy and ended up setting the same orders as at the previous game except for giving Tiffany Yuen 2 of Andy Li's overs.

We lost the toss, they batted first, and we bowled them out for 131. Ivan Lam took 3 wickets in his new-ball spell, and then Lai O Yin picked up 4 as he cleaned up the tail. In reply we're already 67/1 in 14 overs. Nathan Law out for just 10, but Tony Chung and Agnes Chow looking comfortable atm.

Easy 9 wicket win in the end.

Over to the Dom Dom Memorial CG where the ZCC U21s play host to The Merry Orangutans. We're testing out a XI that we would like to roll out in Div 2 league games next season. Got Tudor and Younis opening the batting (decent skills and need the IGT), Grubs at 3 to steady things, then Ahsan (*)-Halliday-Madani (+) in the middle order. The 'ringer' Garner slots in at 7 for some late finishing/counter-attacks, and then the 4 bowlers in order of their batting potential.

Bowling wise the pitch has a lot of pace and moisture, mainly because that suits the senior team better and they have a must-win T20 game tomorrow, so Chester and Livpreet will bowl just 7 overs each and Younis will get a 3-over spell late in the game. Bashir will open the bowling for 4 overs and then return to complete his quota later, Sampath will bowl 6 of his overs by the 16th over and will deliver his final 2 in the death, and Danial Ahsan will turn his arm around for 7 overs as well. Good amount of IGT for everyone and doing my best to fit the conditions.

10K rating advantage over the Orangutans, a shade under 41K ratings total, which is decent but perhaps still a bit underwhelming for Div 2. We've won the toss and have elected to bat first. So far we've negotiated the new ball well - 17/0 in 6 overs. We'll need to cash in on the back half of the innings, right now it's all about wickets in hand.
