I'm concerned about the number of free kicks Grealish will win by just running at us and falling over.

I suppose a population of 4m is going to occasionally struggle to produce enough high quality players to be really good. And 24 teams was always likely to provide some pretty mediocre sides who wouldn't have made it previously.
The ex-Yugoslavs have enough ball talent to nurture 3-4 competent national teams in each of football, basketball, volleyball and handball. Population not an argument there.

I was wondering how a team that still has Modrić and Perisić has fallen off the cliff so badly in barely 3 years since Russia 2018.

Haha, I'm just referring to the fact that I'd like to see some more attack minded play and passion from the players. Lack of leaders out there. Never quite understood why England managers are so defense minded when there's so much talent. Play a system that lets them express themselves.

Tbf all the players you mentioned were notoriously ploddy/stodgy for England

Grealish is hopeless, was just waiting to fall over whoever stick their leg out. Had no answer when he was required to actually play football.

Thank god England didn't skank a goal there, would have been totally undeserved - yet another game that highlighted Southgate's complete inadequacy as a coach

Well played Scotland

Would have done far better if he had been asked to play in a system that wasn't utter balls one suspects

That was dog, it really was.

Scotland did well, but, Stones's header aside, we created eff all.

Delivery into the box thereafter was woeful. Trippier has to play.

England have a few players who all want to run with the ball but lack someone to pass the ball around and run the game. I guess the fullbacks are a distribution focus if they can get forward enough. Rice and Philips together is too conservative in games like this.

Impressively underwhelming from England. Really something to produce a performance quite that unblemished in its blandness.

Scotland were excellent, weren't they. Too many of England's players seemed to freeze, and I'm not sure why. The midfield completely went missing for the last 20 minutes or so and I was relieved to get away with the draw. Pickford our best player, not least for that outstanding save in the first half.
