Are ya winning son?

Apparently not. Impressive work by the depleted NZ. Interesting selection awaits for the world test champ final

He’s another batsman who’s been tossed the gloves. Foakes is the only keeper in England who looks like one. But Buttler and Bairstow suddenly look more appealing.

In this batting line up - Burns, Sibley, Pope, Crawley and Lawrence all average basically the same (29-32) and have 85 test caps combined between them.

Given they were forced into this situation, maybe Billings would have been the better choice? Would've been good for some counterpunching runs down the order.

it's probably the most robotic and least empathetic selection england have made in 10 years
I instinctively think there must have been worse as we have history, but even I'm struggling. Better Pope to keep really. Feel really sorry for him though despite my sniping, wouldn't be surprised if it affected his entire county game, it's one of the reasons I despise when people say, oh call them up, can't hurt, what about the experience, well if the experience is ****ing lousy because you are not up to it, it can be damaging to a promising career, see Crane, Blakey, Lathwell, Kerrigan, et cetera et cetera.

I've already heard people say pick Parkinson against India, because Leach clearly has done a poor job carrying drinks, that would be an ideal way to **** up a talent, still bowls too many bad balls, think Indian bats would feast.

haha yeah, they've seriously mismanaged him.

in an ideal world you give them a squad call up and they spend 12 months with the team, learning. If they need to play, you give them a junior role.

sometimes this isn't possible of course, in which case you go with a more experienced first class player or you back the younger player to the hilt.

we all know they're not going to back bracey to the hilt.

But the backing him to the hilt was never going to be an option, because when Buttler, Foakes and maybe even Bairstow are back in contention he wasn't going to be in. Yeah would have been an ideal time to go with an old-stager, as a stand-by, actually though hard to think who that might have been. Would have been nice in pride month for Davies to get his first cap, would have made some froth, but probably deserved a cap, Yet I think Pope 'keeping would not have hurt us, he was one coming through the ranks.

This actually isn't a million miles away from what they've done. Bracey was with the squad all last summer and over the winter.

He was probably going to be a backup only in this series too until Foakes got injured.

Presumably at some point over the past year someone saw him bat and/or keep.

I'm glad we are going to lose humiliatingly in a way though, we clearly need to look at our selection policy, which does seem ridiculously slanted to yoof and pace, and again seems to echo the Sky comms, not sure why we do that

I went out when NZ were 9 down. When I got to where I was going I checked cricinfo and saw England lost Burns got 0 second ball. At that point I expected England to get bowled out sub 200 and lose. But this is something else, threatening to go for under 100 at home. It's not like it's a minefield.
