Patience is key

Do you try to put your strongest XI out in Friendlies?
Yes and No... my squad is only 16 players at the moment. Cut right back to bare bones. And I keep playing dev friendlies, so only have 13 players to choose from, so sticking with XI really. I have no spare wk which is a big issue. Sold him because it was to easy to play him and not try develop Mthombeni.

I've revealed my squad if you want to have a quick look.... @cnerd123

Lots of potential, but trying to play the long game. I am spending money/time on improving my coaches and groundsman at the moment as well.

Yea decent crop of players for a starting side, should serve you will till you unearth/purchase a few 45+ pot players.
Yeah thats the plan... develop what I`ve got as a beginning backbone of a side. Save money to hopefully buy some top quality in the future and cross fingers on my scouting (who have been terrible the last few weeks!).

I’m really starting to get worried about Moooo’s batting.

in two different OD matches yesterday, both times getting bowled for under 100. Most of the batsmen are of dev age tho so I am hopeful a tiny bit about the future.

With GG CC, those ****ers are varsity. They go and play hard cricket. I’m not worried about them at all (not being complacent here.)

Will do a job for a while.

I believe in building a squad with players over a wide age-range. So if I was a starting team lacking a decent 22 YO who can help carry the side for the next 3-4 seasons, a guy like him would work. But he wouldn't fit in at either ZCC or FHK.

Yeah he's a decent buy, the sort of player I wish there were more around for new teams to have a chance to get competitive with.

Btw, I have a proposal ready for CW Championship schedule. Do people want to take a look?

CW Championship Season 2/3

@cnerd123 hope this doesn't feel like an overrule, merely meant as a proposal.
I'm happy with all of that. I`m unsure why we need to group 2 x groups?

From my point of view I`m not worried about being pummelled. I would like to see the early championships used as a basis to get general future rules and scheduling right. But I also don't want to be creating rules as a precedent that limit participants to much. Long term (in a few seasons) I want to be playing a full strength side against @Magrat Garlick @cnerd123 and wanting to be beating your arses in good fun, not thinking you have dialled it back! I think that there is enough of a dialogue between players here, the 'don't be a dick' rule is probably a good enough general rule without limiting players. Also when finals eventually hits I hope players care enough to be playing their best side!

So my thinking was to have this comp as a kind of bridging competition between S2 and S3, so the newcomers get something to play in and refine tactics etc in a competitive environment, but not an official title. Also gives us time to work out who is best suited for the various tasks around running the comp.

Schmaltzberg lineup vs MTO for the U21 friendly in 1hr15min: Buckland+, Kurusumuttu, Holding, McGill, Yengwayo, Steenkamp, Payne, Wessel, Ndlovu, Lickley*, Dean.
Bowling: Ndlovu, Lickley, Payne, Dean, McGill, Wessel, Kurusumuttu.
Today finds the Merry Orangutans facing the formidable Schmaltzberg mining companies Dynamo development team, away from home on what looks like a good batting surface.
The MTO’s team today will be:
1. Nathan Reid - A young precious opener, showing a solid potential at early age. Very fit that management hopes will become a guiding force for team innings.
2. Jalal Farhat - One of the older members of the squad, but still a young man who shows good shot, if aggressive, shot selection and ice in his veins. A man with the potential to start the teams innings on the right foot.
3. Alonso Kock* – The captain, and most experienced member of the team the man charged with taking his club to bigger and better things. An aggressive no 3 that also shows high defensive skills.
4. Hetal Tyagi – A stalwart of the team. A finger spinner of top quality and batsmen of grit. A darling of the crowd who single handedly holds this team together.
5. Mohinder Pankharia – The youngest member and newest acquisition for the team, still trying to find his place and develop his potential.
6. Jacques Katz – The 2nd oldest member of the team and another darling of the crowd. A steady right handed batsmen that has taken his team home many times, but finds himself in a recent precarious position while batting and has not pulled through.
7. Adolf Marx – A young man given an unfortunate name at birth, but with special potential with both bat and ball. Already showing influence in the dressing room along with some solid determination. Management is hoping he takes every opportunity he is given.
8. Todii Mthombeni+ – One of the most talented members of the squad, still trying to find his wk and batting feet. But a great deal of belief by management that he will come right and start playing to his potential, helping lead the club to greater things.
9. Jeroen Viljoen – The oldest member of the team at 20, found himself briefly replaced by other younger potential squad members. But with his steady line and length and extra pace was soon reselected by a management that saw the error of their ways.
10. Zach Burger – A prodigious young bowling talent (with some batting ability) that already shows his ability at such a young age. He recently gave up some pace to improve his control. A man along with Mthombeni to help take the club to a brighter future.
11. Sanjeewa Samaranayake – Another youngster with lots of potential. Has provided good performances, but has also not found a consistent line and length. A partnership breaker and cool man under pressure, he needs to come good as he finds his place threatened by other younger fast bowlers.

MTO's once again lose an early wicket....

Expert opinion is surprisingly even between the two teams!

200 was way too much for all but the flattest of slow roads. It's minimum, not par score!

And there Ndlovu gets one to the edge of Jalal. Great nut from the Zimbok.

I had been setting very conservative scores, and still getting bowled out cheaply... so wondered if I set a more aggressive score at least the batsmen would try get some runs on the board. Still getting to know system! Obviously better batting is the real solution!
