Anyone in Birmingham know what the weather is doing this morning? I know there are apps and online reports available, but they currently have light cloud and a moderate breeze for where I am and it's been tipping down all morning so far.

For England I think the batting line up is easy to predict, I don't see any change in the top 7 from last time, I've not a clue who they are going with 8-11 though!

The press are talking as though Anderson will get his record cap today, I can't imagine he'll be rotated given there's 8 weeks until the next test match.... but who knows?

Hunch is they'll go Stone, Leach, Broad Anderson.

To be honest Rachin is averaging like 30 with the ball maybe this season and 90% of his wickets came this season. From what I've seen he's now a proper bowler and can be the 5th bowler option.

That said I'll be extremely surprised but stoked if they pick him. My guess it's like 0.1% chance of chance Kane and Stead will be picking him. Heck they made Conway wait like a year before making him debut for test side.

Ajaz is 32 and qualifies on age eligibility as per Kane and Stead ? he'll surely play. Tbf Ajaz deserves the spot as a bowler.

Honestly, it would be the ideal situation in which to slot in a young debutant - a game on which there’s relatively less focus (compared to the final), getting to bat down the order etc. Would be miffed if I were Ajaz and missed out though.

Hoping we win the toss and bat. Looks like the pitch is flat. Us bowling last on this pitch will give us the best chance to win this test.

We don't want to be batting last on this pitch. It'll be quite up and down.

Also want to see how Latham uses the spinners. In 3 over spells or use to attack and price out wickets. Hope he doesn't change the spinner as soon as they go for a boundary in an over.

Love how the Indians and the Aussies use their spinners. They want them to knock over guys with spin and set good aggressive fields.

Just a thought crossed, is our team the one that has the most near 30 or over 30 players?

Also is there any other team in the world that's youngest player is 26?

Don't care about the age but just curious, a good question to ask Cricinfo.

Wonder if they considered playing Watling as a specialist bat? He too needs some form and the middle order could use his experience.

This is starting to resemble the Sydney 2020 test in the number of changes being made/enforced. Hope they're not planning to bring in Henry for Southee simply on the "need an outswing bowler" basis. Well if they do, may the force of the Dukes ball be with Matt.

Six changes
We've gone and selected Henry voluntarily resting both Southee and Jamieson - we really should've retained one of those. I guess we'll see how Henry Duke ball meme works out.
