Great performances in tests nobody talks about

Just a thread about some of the unnoticed or underappreciated performances that somehow escape people's radar despite being great.

Just to start off, Mushtaq Mohamad as captain in 1977 against West Indies in Port-of-Spain. Score 121 and 56 against an attack of Roberts, Garner and Croft, and then takes eight wickets including those of Richard and Kalicharran. Pakistan won their first victory in the country I believe.

1992/3 NZ vs SL series, Hashan Tillekaratne at short leg / silly point took 8 catches, half of them absolute peaches. A huge reason for the win was his fielding.

bj watling set up nz's last test win in england with a good third innings 120.

media after the game focused almost exclusively on the batsman at the other end who scored a 50. it was brendon mccullum, who scored in ones and twos instead of fours and sixes.

In 2008 at Dhaka vs SL, Shakib al hasan picked up 5-70 in the first innings including the wickets of Sangakkara, Mahela, Samaraweera and PJ to bowl SL out for less than 300 in the first innings. Also scored a 96 in the 4th innings vs Murali/Vaas to briefly give them hope of an impossible win.

In 2017 in bangladesh's 100th test in their history, Shakib al hasan scored 116 vs a peak Herath (who'd just months ago singlehandedly chewed up australia in its entirety and spat out the remains into the indian ocean ) to take BD to 450+ after they were 198-5 and picked up 6 wickets to give them a historic win

In 2017 Dhaka vs Australia, bangladesh won the toss, immediately collapsed to 10-3 before Shakib al hasan counterattacked with an 84 against renowned greater-than-the-windies-quartet australia attack of Cummins-Hazelwood-Lyon. Then he took 10 wickets in the match including both cheats, to help bangladesh win by 20 runs.

Genuinely gun performances. I only remembered the Australian one, and even then forgot he walked in at 10-3.

Other great ones:

Malcolm Marshall taking 5-29 off 31 overs in Sydney in 1988 on a spinner's wicket in which Allan Border took eleven wickets. No other pacer came close to this mastery.

Andrew Caddick's 7-94 against Australia in 2002, leading England to victory against an all-time great side.

Pat Symcox's 108 against an attack of Waqar, Shoaib, Saqlain and Mushtaq Ahmed at the Wanderers in 1998, saving SA when they were 166-8.

Botham took 6/58 and 7/48 in the same game once batted once hitting 114 off 144 balls out of a total of 296. Got Gavaskar twice too (in Mumbai)
I think that side, Gavaskar aside, was not as strong as they were affected by loss of Packer cricketers.
