Baggy Green ball tampering: Bancroft, Smith and the Aussie "Leadership Group"

I'm still not fully convinced that Smith was that involved in the ins and outs of the tampering - his role has been richly studied and documented, probably the most so of any of the three, and the worst thing he did IMO came after the fact with that horrendous press conference - but I fully believe that the bowlers knew all about it all along and have thought that since day 1.

Also the initial rage and overreaction by the media, the public and civil society/politicians here, reflected mercifully only in a few individuals here, only looks more embarrassing and lacking in perspective in the three years since.

In the game that they got the cameras to stop the tampering before effects got too crazy. They caught it early because they saw it in the previous game.

Personally, I prefer to go with the 'if we didnt catch them cheating at the time, they werent really cheating' theory.

I am pretty partisan relative to some of the members here. I typically care a lot more about whether RSA wins than the quality of the cricket. But Aus hooping it was probably my favourite passage of play in any test match, and defs my favourite when my side is getting the snot knocked out of it.
This message took me so long to write properly
in my drunken state last night that I feel I deserve a post graduate degree for it.

If you watched that passage of play you should remember it. It was glorious. I never got to see the WI in full pomp, but I doubt their worst bowler on the day was more entertaining than M Fecking Marsh reversing it around corners in the second test.

I am old enough to remember when Flintoff etc didn’t know that Trescothick had been rubbing Murray’s Mints on a ball after research by the squad showed it to be most effective

Talk about a big PR ****up. Bancroft now saying "nah I have nothing" and now the bowlers putting out a statement saying they didn't cheat.

All sides should've shut the hell up. Once Bancroft said what he said CA should've just gone and said "this is a past matter, no future punishments. Just inform us what happened".

Instead we have a scenario where no-one is satisifed and open warfare seems to be happening between Bancroft and the bowlers.

Open welfare has been happening between Bancroft and bowlers once they figured out he loves to knock one to leg gully tbh
