Probably:
Tim Latham
Tom Blundell
Kane Williamson (c)
Ross Taylor
Henry Nicholls
BJ Watling (+)
CDG/Santa
Kyle Jamieson
Tim Southee
Neil Wagner
Trent Boult
This is a very good side, except I'm not sure why Tom Latham has been dropped for his evil twin Tim.

I think Phillips can feel really hard done by, especially with Rachin in the side. Which isn’t to say Rachin is not a player of immense potential. But Phillips has played really well this season, and IMO doesn’t deserve to be dropped.
Depends what Rachin is in the side for. He's probably not fighting Phillips for a spot. Phillips is a 4-5, Rachin is either an opener or a 6-7 who bowls.

And 390 runs at 39 in the Plunket Shield isn't enough for Phillips to be banging the door down. Three 50s, no hundreds.

I think he hit a century or two in the NZ A games

Don't think so. He'd have been assessed, asked and likely he would have agreed as well with the decision. No way they would have left him out of he was good enough to stay on the park for 5 days.

I think we have on our minds the plunkett figures are only that matter. The NZ A numbers matter better than plunkett shield in my opinion. Bracewell had a good NZ A stint. I think Phillips did too.

The cricinfo article mentions resting him for the T20I WC

Ferguson's our best LO bowler and we have two T20 world champs and a World Cup coming up in the next 3 years. And in spite of him having played barely any first class cricket over the past 18 months he's only managed to stay fit for a fraction of NZ's schedule of T20's and ODI's. The selectors aren't going to risk him aggravating his stress fracture by playing him in a series of tests in England at a time of the year when medium-pace swing bowlers tend to be the most effective option.

Even if he had been 100 % fit all season, Ferguson wasn't going to go unless they picked 21 players.

They can't assume one of Boult / Jamieson / Ferguson will get there in time for 1st test, so needed the other 16 non-IPL players for 1st test 12 + injury cover (including 4 specialist quicks Southee Henry Duffy Wagner + Bracewell injury cover).

Love the 20 person squad, particularly pleased to see Conway, Rachin, Mitchell and Duffy as new or near-new reserves.

Bracewell, Santner and Henry (notwithstanding Duke/ County Cricket hax) are a bit meh, but there are loads of spare parts in the squad and they shouldn't get near the side unless IPL leaves us very short.

Glenn Phillips the only one I genuinely feel has missed out, even if his FC average wasn't amazing this season.

Usually I would be unhappy Ferguson is not there, but agree with Bahnz the risk/reward doesn't quite stack up in this case.

i disagree. he hasnt played much red ball because he plays white ball for nz. when he does play he dominates. he's our 5th best bowler at worst. until late 2019 where he was sold down the river at perth he had a remarkable bill of health.

the wc is 2 years away and the t20 wc is worthless compared to the wtc final. he should be on that plane unless he pulled out himself imo.

Southee Wagner Boult Jamieson Ferguson.
I'd put him around 7th or 8th personally.

I don't know about ferguson in test cricket.

I know there's no evidence for it but I'd sooner pick milne
