Lee was one of those guys who look way better on paper than he was in reality. The best way to manage him would have been to have bowled him out by the 35th over but Bracken was better in the middle overs top partner with Hogg so he ended up with death bowling by default and he wasn't great at that unless bowling at the tail, which he often was tbf because McGrath, Bracken and Hogg had usually made the important breakthroughs.

Ponting's world cup finals innings in 2003 was not in the top 20. Nor was Warne's bowling performances in the semi finals and finals in 1999. Yet performances by Watson against Bangladesh in a JAMODI are in there? Holy bad take Batman.

Hmm, I remember Donald bleeding runs, but his economy rate is 4.15, which isn't too bad, although a notch below the best of his era.

Perception is probably skewed by the fact that he played with a bunch of really economical right arm quicks.

Anyway, Pollock still notably ahead of him for my money.

People don't realize, but Pollock is one of the greatest ODI players of all time. Right in that Richards, Tendulkar, Murali, McGrath bracket. One can argue that Pollock can replace Garner or McGrath on bowling alone. Then we know about his batting.

Nah the opposite. Most unplayable new ball bowler in ODIs. 150kph accurate outswingers, it was ****ed. You're right about how to manage him though. If he wasn't used as a death bowler but instead bowled 5-6 up front with 2 more strike spells during the innings he would have come out looking a lot better statistically.

The only guys I've seen be as unplayable as Lee with the new white ball are Shane Bond and (very briefly) Nuwan Kulasekara

Nice analysis by Ananth Narayan. He takes may facets of the performances in to action. McGratb being #1 is a non shocker for me. However few important things are apparent.

1. Places of Brett Lee, Jhonson and Mitchell Starc, very high in the list. No wonder Aussies had a gun attack 2000 - 2010 period with at least three of above four playing.
2. Rashid Khan's ranking!
3. Warne was never the second best ODI spinner
4. Why Sri Lanka is struggling big time. Murali (#2), Vaas (#7), Malinga (#19) and Mendis (#23) all played for a good chunk of time, and possibly marks one of the best ever ODI bowling attacks.

Thanks for the list of top bowlers. Waseem Akram was one of my
favorite bowlers. HE was not the fastest but the smartest bowler.
He was also the master in swing bowling
