yeah as that ball shows. obviously you need some luck but root is showing that skill does still count for something here. he's on 12 but it's a very impressive 12 as they go.

Absolutely, but that is really true of every tough pitch. Virat put on a bit of a masterclass of how to play in control on a turner in the second innings of the second test in Chennai. I feel this is more unpredictable though.

yeah but i still feel it's just this side of playable. it's not like root has relied on dropped catches or has hit the ball in the air between fielders or had near-miss inside edged lbws or anything like that.

mind you, it's hard to see anyone getting to 50 as it stands.

real difficult pitch to umpire on this. spinners on turning pitches is usually the toughest gig.
