Virat Kohli vs Rahane

Jayro

U19 12th Man
It's about time we discuss the two as captains as Kohli's strange no shocking selections have been hurting the team badly plus the commitment he showed in the midst of Aussie test series to the team was unprecedentedly epic.

I think neatness of facial hair favours Kohli, while Rahane leads in stoner eyes.

Rahane sucks as a batsman
Kohli sucks as a captain
I guess Rahane can contribute more as an opener, especially on Asian pitches. He hasn't done well when the ball is turning and he has to face the spinners right when he is in, having the cushion of getting settled before facing spin might help him. He looks more in control against pacers.

But I would want him in the XI, just for his captaincy alone. Kohli is just terrible at captaincy.

I wouldn't even select Rahane as a batsmen when playing in India, so there's no one else to take over the captaincy
Ashwin probably? He is street smart as a cricketer, and his test spot is more or less never in question. We can even try Pujara, can't be worse than Kohli for sure, we just need to get the basics right with the resources we have.

I think talk of tossing Kohli aside is a dangerous game. Maybe not initially, but the intensity he demands is probably why India has become so succesful. And he can lead by example as a premier batsman in the world, which inspires your team. Putting Rahane in is just like putting Paine in. You love the guy and the more relaxed attitude is pleasing to watch, but you love the success that apparent ***** like ponting or kohli bring to the team when they demand that players hold themselves accountable to a higher standard.
If you don't like Kohli's selections (i dont know how India's selections work) then just change the selection rules.

I haven't really seen a good argument for removing Kohli tbh. It tends to not be about any decisions in particular and just guesswork about what he might be like behind the scenes. It's tempting to point to results in Australia and NZ and say ain't no smoke without fire but I think until you can cite at least something on-field, or players start to openly discuss the backroom situation, it's confusing correlation for causation.

One issue I have with Kohli is that he seems incapable of putting himself in shoes of other players. Keeps talking about intent, body language and **** because that's how he motivates himself. Being aggressive and in-your-face brings the best out of him but that's not how most players are wired. He thinks if only players tried harder, had more passion they would be champions. That's not how it works.

This is based off his off field comments obviously, we don't know how he handles team in the dressing room.

On the other hand, I feel there is a direct correlation with our pace attack getting better and him taking over captaincy. Its hard to say anything, I suppose he can relax a bit more on the field or maybe leave Rahane to interact with the bowlers etc. There are many ways we can have the best of both worlds here, really.

Virat and Rahane are the greatest supporters of each other while playing in the same team.
I'll still go with Kohli as my captain for all three formats. Instead of who wins how many
matches as a captain or who scores more runs or more tons, we all want the Indian Team
to keep ruling the format.
