New/fairly unknown player you are rooting for!

I dunno about Nathan Smith - sorta feels like a Sam Curran-lite to me.

Hope I'm wrong but I'm not sure what discipline he's going to become international class - whether that's a LO player (I'd presume) as what, a 4th seamer and finisher? Is he good enough to bat 7 for NZ? Not close at the mo.
Yeah that's a very good comparison. Overall package is good. Bowling is reasonable, swings it both ways and has good change of pace. I'm guessing he's not very tall so will be a skiddy type of bowler. I feel he's better batsman than bowler. Has good technique and can hit a long ball. A very good no.7 option. Terrific fielder from what I've seen. I think he can squeeze 6-8 years of international cricket out of him. Sort of like Jacob Oram or Scott Styris.

Cameron Green fits the theme of this thread quite nicely. Would love to see him bat and bowl like he's done in the shield.

What are some up and coming players you are following/enjoy watching.

I will go ahead and name Maheesh Theekshana from Sri Lanka. Another "mystery spinner" from SL who bowls quite a few variations between speeds of 80-100 kmph. I don't remember where I saw him bowl the first time, but he was bowling off-spin, arm ball, carrom ball and loopy in-swinging full deliveries in some local T20 tournament. I then saw some of his videos on YouTube and looks like he can be an exciting player.

What are some other fairly unknown but promising players that you guys follow.
This is good:D

Also, guess who it is at 56 seconds.

eh maybe 2 years ago he would have. Sure he's "new" but not exactly a big call to back him now. Like backing a 1.10 favourite.

Nial Smith for me.

Guyanese fast bowler (definitely ignore the categorization of medium on Cricinfo). Beautiful action, can be very quick, moves the ball both ways and when he gets on a role is devestating. Clean bowled Hety in the two warm up games for the Super 50.

Had his first full FC season in 2019 and made a very promising start, if a bit hot or cold. Hopefully he will play for Guyana today in the televised Super 50 match.

Here was his FC debut where he took 6/65 against Leeward Islands.

It was a dream start for him and to our campaign last year. We lost some difficult games.

I thought he was dropped ridiculously for one of the games after a wild spell in the second innings against Barbados. Once again, terrible talent management in the Caribbean.

However, he has the goods! One thing I don't know though, is why he wasn't spotted ages ago? He's 25 now.

Well, he’s from New Amsterdam (where I went to high school)...they used to have seriously talented guys in my day. Tucber Park tends to produce more fast bowlers: Jeremy Gordon and Kellon Henry.

im not sure what is Nial Smith’s backstory. Maybe he was spotted just bowling quite and fast in tapeball games and was advised to go join a club to play hardball cricket. Furthermore, Julian Moore (a youth coach) hails from the same area as Nial Smith.

I'll be routing for him today. Hope he bowls quick with the new ball and nails yorkers later in the innings.
