This reminds me of when Waqar Yonis was living in Bella Vista and a few of the boys from the local club went around to his joint to see if he'd roll the arm over one Saturday when they were short.

I think he was mowing his lawn and didn't play, from memory.

Why would Dhawan take a paycut to play for Australia?

Maybe he'll consider it once his India career is over for good.

Well, its obviously a stretch but a lot of my colleagues are Indians who are now US citizens and a number of them have relocated to India during/just before the pandemic. The idea is to stay put with family till this blows over. Dunno if Dhawan and family did that but it won't surprise me if they did.
